Question Wifi router docsis?

I think this is a stupid question, but I have to ask...

Does my wifi router (router only, NOT router/modem combo) have a docsis number?

I've been having internet speed issues. A tech from Spectrum came this afternoon to see what was up. He was very new, didn't seem to know what he was doing. Said Spectrum had upgraded to a 3.1 docsis and that's why I was running slow, since my modem is 3.0. He said he could give me a new modem for free, but that I'd have to get a new wifi router because my router, as well, was docsis 3.0 and wouldn't be compatible with the new 3.1 modem.

However, I can't find docsis specs on any router (???) and this is news to me.....

No. The tech is wrong.

There is no DOCSIS router.

There is DOCSIS modem/router combo device, which is called gateway.

You can continue to use your own router.

THANK YOU. That's what I thought when he said that, but then I wondered if I was losing my mind or maybe things has changed in the six months since I bought a new router.

May be that if yiu tell us the model of your Router and the speed of your Internet servce we can make a more accuraate judgment.

Maybe the tech just meant, that the DOCSIS 3.1 modem (Gigabit capable) needed a Gigabit-capable router.

Does your existing router have gigabit WAN and LAN ports on it? If not, think about an upgrade.
