wifi for apartment complex

My brother just moved into a new apartment complex and isn't getting a good connection from his old router. There are a lot of competing wireless routers installed around him. He has a laptop, phone, and maybe one other device. All are standard wireless b/g/n; none are dual-band that I know of. Any recommendation for a router that would perform well around so many other wireless signals?

He's going to need a new router anyway--the one he's got is a loaner while he's getting settled in. Just wanted him to get one that wouldn't repeat the problem that this one had. The router works just fine in a single home, which is where I'll take it back.

His solution could be as easy as changing the channel being used to one that is isn't overlapping his neighbors. For example, if the neighbors are using channel 6, then he should use channel 1 or 11. He could also get a router that can use the 5GHz (802.11a/n).
