WiFi channel interference

I have 2 wifi cams. When I set them up I used my phone and an app to see local channel usage. No one was on 1 so that is how I set it all up. Last week or so one cam or the other would go dark with a No Signal message for 30 secs or so and then come back. While testing a way to see wifi info on my iPad I noticed 2 other routers in my area using chan 1. I moved to the desolate chan 11.

Would channel interference cause my problem?

It certainly could, if the other wireless sources are strong enough/close enough to your router or to the cameras.

I've experienced wifi interference with one of my radio control helicopters even though the radio and model were bound on their own channel. With all of the different electronic devices on wifi these days it's bound to happen. When my problem occurred the helicopter, a hobby quality collective pitch flybarless 450 class bird with brushless motor, took off in excess of 50mph and crashed into a tree damaging the flight head. The carbon fiber main rotor blades were stronger than the branches LOL.

I am having similar problems although not similar enough to go into. One thing to consider also is bandwidth. How many wireless devices do you have is one consideration but the other is what are the video settings? High resolutions and the settings that go along with them can eat up a lot of bandwidth and probably unnecessarily. In other words just how good a picture quality do you actually need? It may be worth some experimentation.

My $.02.

2 cams, phone (email, messages) and an iPad used for email and net browsing.

Don't think I am at a bandwidth problem.

Have not had the problem since moving to chan 11.
