Great, so my wife was supposed to go to jury duty at 8 am today. She didn't go... And she's leaving for Vietnam in 2 days. WTF are we supposed to do now?

you only have one choice.

time to live a life on the run

if she leaves the country, they'll never let her back in... she's gonna be stuck living in the airport for the rest of her life.... expatriotated from her own country.

As for Jury duty, OP, you should just send a letter back stating you are out of the county. You can also put in something like she doesn't have a firm grasp on the english language, which also explains why she didn't understand she was suppsed to go the first time.

Oh she has a firm grip of the language. She was just a nincumpoop and forgot! She hasn't left the country yet so how can I say this?

Would it be a good idea to call them tomorrow and ask what to do?

just make sure to call from an untraceable phone....
dont give your information, just call making sure its a 'generic inquiry' .. like... "say... hypothetically speaking, what would happen if i or someone i knew, missed jury duty because they didnt write the day down?"

Doesn't sound good, since she skipped jury duty she can expect the guys with badges to come look for her.

If only she had the power of our forum software...

Since she has already planned ahead with a trip to Vietnam, she should start working on the paperwork to apply for asylum when she gets there. You should either consider getting a new life or getting passage as an unlisted passenger on a cargo ship to Vietnam to join her.

The answer is easy.

28 U.S.C. § 1866(g):

Any person summoned for jury service who fails to appear as directed shall be ordered by the district court to appear forthwith and show cause for his failure to comply with the summons. Any person who fails to show good cause for noncompliance with a summons may be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than three days, or both.
