Wife in the hospital with "gallbladder stones".

Ah Waggy, I feel bad for your wife - I had my gallbladder removed when I was 21, I had around 5 attacks before I actually went to the doctor. Some people say it's worse than child birth when you pass a gallstone.

The surgery's not bad if you have the "typical" surgery - 4 holes, one at the sternum, one under the belly button and two above the gallbladder itself. If you're wife is overweight, or anything has shifted or she's had a c-section, then she might have to go with the more invasive surgery. My surgery was around $21,000 total after all was said and done - but I had insurance.

This will cause a change in diet for your wife - she won't be able to process fats as well, and it can cause diarrhea. It'll take time but the body can grow accustomed to processing the bile without storing it. Send me a PM if you have anymore questions, or just post em here - I don't mind sharing.

Ugh, I hope she does ok man, that sucks. If it's not dire you may want to consult a Naturopath for a second opinion.

I've never had problems with gall stones, but did the cleanse for them. You can find it on google. but this is basically what you do:

don't eat any solid foods after noon a day, just water until evening.
Take some epsom salts in the evening like 3-4 hours before bed.

Get a pint of olive oil (or at least a cup for small people) chill it if you want, cold-pressed extra virgin good stuff is my preference.
Get 1/2 cup of fresh-squeezed lemon juice

every 15 minutes, drink a big sip (mouthful) of olive oil and a little sip of lemon juice. You can't chug oil cuz you will throw up. Wait at least 15 minutes between sips and go until all the oil is gone.

Go to bed, trying to sleep on your right side.

In the morning, this changes your oil, you can't hold it in, you just run to the bathroom. But this does clean out gall stones and some people catch them in a net in the toilet. Some people report stones the size of golf balls.

I've done this twice, with a pint or more of olive oil, and I was fine. But I am a big guy who didn't have gall stones. It is disgusting, but not the most disgusting thing I ever drank (That was whole buttermilk) and chilling it helps with taste.

I am not a doctor and do not do this unless you consult a doctor first. Just letting you know it is out there. It is an alternative for people who really hate surgery.

Please don't do this. This is pure quackery. The stones that come out are created BY all that shit you're drinking. They are not gallstones.

yup. Took years before I could eat Mayonnaise again. Often get stomach aches and lots of Gas from Fat. The aches from eating a lot of Fat, Gas seems to happen no matter how much Fat I eat. That doesn't stop me though.

The typical mnemonic taught in med school about gallstones is the 5 F's: Fat, Female, Forty, Fertile, Flatulence

That said, I wouldn't inform my patients of this mnemonic.

Good luck with the surgery. It's a simple laparoscopic procedure; I was first-assist on many of these procedures as a first-year med student. It's too bad you have to pay out of pocket. Canadians take this for granted; here the surgery would be free.

well she's nto fat. she is female she is only 32 but fertile. and as for flatulence? yeah she has always has it.

if she is going to change her diet that means mine is. oh well its for the better but i do like my mayo!

She kicked me out of the room. all she is doing is sleeping and i kept bugging he to talk. but i gotta go in early for the procedure.

Did you try this even if you did not have any gallstone pain/problems? Approx how old are you?

That sounds just awful, but hey, if it works...

I did it when I was 26 and 27, I'm 28 now, I am overdue. It has to be extra virgin, but I found the normal supermarket variety had me burping up olive oil and the fancy stuff from the natural foods store didn't (cold pressed) so I recommend that.

Some athletes do this to boost their energy level. About 2 weeks after I did this, I was bouncing off the walls like super mario. I didn't have any problems, but it is a liver supportive cleanse, which is what I was going for, even though it targets the gall bladder.

I bet you're into colon cleansing and all that "natural"pseudo alternative medicine bull crap.

Wagg: nevermid this shit. Talk to your doctor.

Wife had those, had to have her gall bladder removed. Nasty nasty pain 🙁 Sorry man.

She had 5 scars on her stomach from the surgery now.

daughter was told that she has stones back in March.

Because of her advanced pregnancy, they held off until June.

Turns out her gall bladder itself was failing - they just removed it completely on a Friday. I brought her home Fri evening.

She was "grounded" for about a week - however, went back to school on Monday.

I was driving her for a week- then she was OK. the teacher let her out early on Tues & wed though when she started feeling faint.

With you being out of work and she being in school - talk to the hospital to see if they can work with you on the bill.

A few years ago; we were in your situation and when my wife went into the ER; they had me fill out a form that waived all the fees.

OK I'm back..

she had the surgery at 10. the surgery went great. but they thought the little opening might be blocked by a stone. So they did another procedure where they go in the mouth and make the opening wider.

they did that at 245. it went great also. the surgeon explained int detail (he even had pictures of it!) what he did.

she fell asleep so i came home. they said she might be coming home tomorrow afternoon. it depends on her pain level and if she is sick.

More weird than scary. I was quite out of it, mostly just annoyed there was crap in my throat. They noticed pretty quick and put me back Under.

yeap. kinda cool. good thing my wife is used to takeing big things in her mouth! 😀

I didn't mean it like that but if you insist....

Me too. I can eat the largest pieces of meat without chewing. It's almost like I was made for that type of stuff. I don't even want to tell you what I can do with the gravy.

I had gallbladder surgery 10 years ago. Was about $8,000+ then. Was home after about 7 hours or so. 4 - less than 1" incisions. Was less painful than the hernia surgery that I had a few months ago.

Good luck to you and your wife! 🙂
