from all the marriage threads on atot, you'd think conservatives would stick to their guns when it comes to prenup. they seem to love the idea that fair is fair, that the woman should not get a dime that isn't hers. i guess maybe having the tables turned with a rich woman disturbs conservatives.

ATOT is your guide to what a Conservative is? That's like saying the P&N forum represents the views of the whole country.:p

What are you nerdlettes talking about? Like you have a remote clue what their relationship is really like.

Some of you need to get some meaning into your lives, like lawn bowling, or croquet. You obviously have too much time on your hands.

i was only citing an example.

conservatives tend to think whats mine is mine and forced charity is a bad thing, so yes, they'd generally be for prenups right? its a divorce tax after all, and well you know what conservatives think about taxes.

Well, this Conservative thinks that forced charity is an oxymoron and believes in people keeping what they earn. Divorce however isn't something that I think about, it just isn't an option for me. Now the question of "is this person who I want to spend 'forever' with" was debated but once the choice is made - it is "forever". IMO "planning" for something like that to "protect" yourself lends itself to not giving all of yourself to the other person in the marriage. My wife has all of me and likewise - she has all of her. ;):p
Granted we both didn't have a penny when we got married but even if I would have been "rich" I wouldn't have had a pre-nup - it's not how I think marriage should be approached. Now as far as kerry's wife - Ms. Heinz - if I was looking at a person's history as one is likely to do when considering a mate - I might just have gotten a pre-nup too....if I were her;)

But like I said - I don't blame her for getting one and likewise I don't blame others for getting one - it is just my opionion that marriage should be an inseperable bond of trust between a man and a woman.
To each his own though.:)

Aren't there lots of other reason for prenups ? I don't think it means planning for the divorce, it's also an orderly way to organize one's affairs, and with a fortune like hers there is probably a lot of detail and management that most of us don't know about.

Like clarifying inheritances and such.
