Wife convicted after husband fatally shoots lover

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- A Texas woman who caused her lover's shooting death by falsely crying rape was convicted Friday of involuntary manslaughter. Tracy Denise Roberson, 37, cried a bit when the verdict was announced. The punishment phase was set for Monday, and she faces two to 20 years in prison. In late 2006, Darrell Roberson came home from a late-night card game to find his scantily clad wife with another man in a pickup truck in the driveway. Tracy Roberson was with her lover but cried rape, and her husband fired four shots into the truck as Devin LaSalle drove off, killing him. Darrell Roberson initially was arrested, but a murder charge was later dropped and a grand jury indicted Tracy Roberson instead. During her three-day trial, defense attorneys called no witnesses but blamed LaSalle's death on Darrell Roberson's jealousy and rage. But prosecutors placed all the blame on Tracy Roberson, showing evidence of the affair with LaSalle, 32, and a text message in which she invited him to her house that evening.

I am not quite sure how I feel about this story. The fact that somebody died is absolutely horrible. I think the outcome is probably the right outcome; maybe I'm in shock that the right person was actually prosecuted.

Yeah, I've heard about this case. Actually sounds like something you would see on Law and Order or another of those cop dramas where there are always things going on behind the scenes. I just have to wonder what about the womens intent though, I mean I understand where lying and crying rape resulted in the mans death, but I have to think it was just a split second descision to try save her marriage and I really have to doubt she intended anyone to be hurt.

So you can put 4 bullets into the back of an unarmed man fleeing from you and they'll blame your wife. Am I the only one who expected the text at the beginning of the article to read SAUDI ARABIA?

BTW if it turns out that she was still in the truck with him when he drove off, then I guess it could be chalked up to defending his wife.

It's already been "chalked up". Her fault, 100%. In the husband's mind he was trying to rescue/protect his wife from her rapist. Tell me you wouldn't do the same if you had a gun on you, and you found your wife with a strange man, and she was yelling rape? It's a no brainer.

Who cares what I'd do? I'd expect to be tried based on my actions. It doesn't say in the article whether she was still in the truck or not when her "lover" drove off. But, it seems likely.

In Saudi Arabia the other man would have lived because it was all the womans fault for allowing a non-male relative into her home.

Yeah occasionally the often times mentally challenged people that make up juries do get it right.

If she's still inside of the car, it's def. her fault.

And the woman would have been stoned to death for adultery...

There was actually a pretty massive thread on this on ATOT awhile back when they decided to drop charges on the guy and charge the wife. She was in the truck as it was speeding away.

She's probably going to a health club for a few years instead of a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison. Her sentence is 2-20....she'll likely serve no more than 5.

IS everyone missing the fact that it happened in Texas?

I am not sure why that is even relevant. Is this some very lame attempt at some not-so-insightful pondering about some Texan stereotype? Hell I think most reasonable people (then by definition are you reasonable?) see this more as a case of a husband attempting to protect his wife who cried out "rape." Would any man really act any different irrespective of where they live/

Personally, I am a displaced Texan, but that has no bearing on my opinion of the article. I just found it rather interesting.

No. Texas has laws basically making it a free fire zone. Which I agree with.

NFS4's thread from 2007
When he arrived, Roberson saw his wife, clad in a robe and underwear, with a man in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, police have said. After Tracy Roberson claimed that the man was trying to rape her, her husband fired four shots at the vehicle as the man tried to drive away with his wife, police have said.

Damn, if I heard my gf (hopefully wife someday.. 🙂) scream she was being raped, I'd shoot the guy and never stop shooting. In fact, I would probably drive to a store to get more bullets to pump into the bastard.

What's horrible about a scumbag dying? It's not like the world needs more people.

How was the dude a scumbag? he wasnt an actual rapist. If anything the wife was the scumbag here for cheating and then lying about it. It is sad that a man died simply because he was hooking up with a married woman.

However I do agree with the verdict, totally the wife's fault.

I'd shoot someone who I thought just raped my wife. Who wouldn't?
