Oh how all have become enamored with powerI remember just a short few years ago when the WRX first came out and people thought that 222HP in that car was the holy meccah. Now it's just "adequate"

at least it's new... I hate when people say "I bought a new car" but it's actually a used car.

Well that is me talking NFS and I used to own a pseduo saleen (1990 LX with Racecraft suspension, Saleen Kit, 3.73 rear end with 2.5 high flow exhaust, bassani X pipe and equal length headers) and did some amateur drag racing back a few years ago when I was more into cars (easier in college and high school to designate income to my car than now with a house)...
She felt the power was more than enough in the Aero model but a bit lacking in the linear which had about 160 I believe....
Actually I am curious to hear your thoughts on this car and if you think it is a decent option...a little late now I know but still I know you have amassed quite a good deal of knowledge on manycars...thanks

For that price after GM discounts, that's a fuggin' STEAL. The WRX is a flat-out all around great vehicle, but ugly (IMHO). The Saab solves the ugly problem yet retains the performance + adds scheduled maintenance. It may be a bad job, but for that price it works:thumbsup:

Honestly I wish knowing what I know now that we had gotten the NA Jetta when we bought it instead of the Turbo...the Turbo is nice per say but the lag was just unbearable and made it somewhat challenging to drive.

I've heard that all VW/Audio turbo'd engines are better than their V6 counterparts. My buddy test drove A4s in both the 2.0T model and the V6 and said the turbo'd car was significantly peppier.
Maybe you just got a lemon.![]()

those saabs are a damn steal with all the rebates. If i was in the market for a new car, i'd definitely be all over that.
And being an Audi owner,
the 1.8T is way over rated. Subarus are lot easier to mod. (stock 1.8t is ~170 hp... and jettas are fwd to boot)

Congrats, the Aero is an awesome car.
I test drove one last weekend as well - as I don't need a car IMMEDIATELY, but my gf drives a Neon (yeah, I know) and it's about on it's last leg. My car is ten years old, so I figured it wouldn't hurt. I called around to the local Saab dealerships, but since im in Bumblefvck, Iowa - the closest dealer is an hour and a half away in Madison, WI.
On the phone, I expressed my interest in a manual Aero, but unfortunately they only had a manual Linear (2.5L NA) and two automatic Aeros. So they let me test drive them both.
Knowing that I was really driving a dressed-up Subaru instead of a half-bred Saab, I knew what to expect when I went into it. The Auto - very fast - snappy responsive engine - if you can drive it right and keep it in the powerband.. I imagine it would be much easier in a manual, becuase the auto shifts you right when the turbo kicks at a little under 3K RPM. Still, very impressed with the Aero auto that I drove. It was a sport package car (sunroof + 17"s), which makes me really want to spring for one if they can find it.
Then I drove the Linear manual. And true to Subaru nature, the throws were short and snappy like a short-throw was already in there, and the clutch was extremely grabby like I expected - but it was a HUGE difference between that and my ten-year old clutch in my car. Both models handled like they were on rails. You stuck to the ground - I took an onramp at 60-65 and the car did not express any tendancy to roll, and the test segment that they let me drive had a few esses and a 90 degree! Very fun.
My only two gripes with the car are the interior.. Well, not my gripe really, the gf's, but it won't be her car now, will it?Anyways, this thing IS a rebadged Scooby, so you get a 'sporty' two-tone black with sliver-ish inset interior, Leather or 'hybrid' cloth. If you are considering this bargin Saab for interior quality - you may have to step up to the 9-3. Quite frankly, I didn't care.
My other gripe is the windows. The door does not 'wrap' around the top and side of the car door, so when you shut and open it, it sits flush against the molding there in the door jam. I don't see this as a major deterrant for buying the car, but it makes me wonder if you could get some rattling or leakage 5, 7, 10 years down the road. My friend has a 3-series that does the same thing, and he's had it close to a year and he doesn't seemed bothered by it.
Then comes the harsh reality -
1) It's still 22+K OTD with the sports package, especially if they don't have one on the lot and have to find it for you. I'm partial to the Artic Silver and the Satin Grey myself. That's not chump change to me, especially since I won't have any trade-in value and plan to keep my original car for a 'beater' (I've hit a few deer in my day, so it's not a salvaged title, but damn close)
2) The manual Aeros left are usually just barebones or Cold package only. After driving the manual Sport - I don't know if I want anything else, even if the price is right. I'm in the locating process with a few dealers, but I'm pretty sure they aren't gonna turn up anything.
Well, that's my take on the car. Bottom line, this car is the best bang for your buck (with the discount) on the market right now.
Once again - congrats and enjoy.. I'm pretty sure you will!
