nothing too fancy but we ended up with a Saab 92x Aero in a grey/silver color..pretty standard with the 16in wheels and no sunroof but it does have the cold weather package which is great for her in the winter...

With their latest deal it was only about 20K.... down from close to 30K and her payments are about what she was at before ($20 more a month) with all service is included for the first two years and it comes with I believe a 4 yr bumper to bumper....

one of the lowest pressure sales I have ever been a part of...and the 220 HP the car has seems adequate, more than enough for her compared to her older POS 1.8T Jetta that she hated because of all the problems and the horrible service....basically the car is the Subaru WRX with a Saab nose and tail for those who didn't know...

just thought I would share as honestly I am rather excited, we loved the Subaru but she was relegated to getting a Inpreza RS as we couldn't swing the extra cost of the WRX, plus the dealer was turning her off to it saying she didn't need the power...she test drove the standard 92x linear and thought it was rather weak...tried the WRX version and was sold...however she has some qualms about reported saab reliability but I assured her that since this was a Subaru in Saab clothing in theory everything should be ok....

car is brand new too, comming in from the boat tomorrow...has alot of grip in the corners...only down is that she wanted the auto...but whatever.

any thoughts appreciated.

Huh? Relegated to a Legacy? I don't follow. A base Legacy is still more then an Impreza RS and a Legacy GT is more then WRX. That makes no sense unless it was an '04 Legacy.

I am not a General Motors fan but good luck with the car. My wife and I are looking at the Mazda Tribute. I don't care for SUVs but this one drives like a car and doesn't get 13 mpg. :)

The only Mazda that we could swing size wise was the 3 and she really didn't like the looks nor the interior of that car...I guess we could have also gone with the 6 but that would have been more than the Saabaru and with less options I believe...

We also looked at Honda but the low HP of the Civic the looked at was something of a turnoff to her, that and she didn't like the looks.

Really anything is better than her Jetta, that thing was horrible from a dealership standpoint..the car itself was ok, the service she got sucked and there were no convenient dealers...at least with Saab every time it goes in for service for a while she will get a near new loaner for free.

Nice car. Is the interior pretty much the same as the Impreza or did they change that as well?

Nice! I'm still considering trading in my car for it as well. Going to take my current car ('01 A4 Avant) for a quote at CarMax tomorrow (hopefully) since it'll be much faster than selling private, I assume.

Did you get to test drive an auto tranny? Wife hates manual, so I have to get an auto if I do get a new car. :( :(

Edit: It's OK if I get an auto tranny; I still have the Miata for fun.

A Forester with the same options as the tribute (6 cyl, 4x4, leather, etc) is much more $$$. We will also never take this SUV off road, its more of a run-a-bout sort of vehicle for us. The most action it will get is flood patrol here in FL and snow patrol up in Chicago.

What about a Toyota Highlander?

The 1.8T was a 2002 and gave us more service headaches than any car I had ever seen, combine that with completely incompetent dealer support and highly inflated service costs and you get the picture....

The interior of the Jetta was far superior to that of the Saaburu but from a reliability standpoint it sucked, plus the power/gas mileage on the 1.8T was actually slightly worse than this which has about 60hp more and is all wheel drive...what is worse is that the new Jetta (something we would have never considered with the absolutely suck dealership support around) is actually around 25K-26K optioned out, IMHO a complete waste.

I used to question why people complained about VW however after seeing just how horrible their dealership network is with service in this area, and how the company doesn't stand behind its product or customer at all I can now understand why so many gripe....

When I even call ford's 1-800 number to complain they at least try to work with me, with VW whenever she would call because a dealer was giving her the shaft they would say that they stand behind their dealers...so basically she wasn't important as a customer to them...

it also wouldn't have been as bad if they provided a free lonaer for her whenever the car was in the shop as Saab does, but with VW there was no loaner program and when they did provide one for warranty work (something you had to fight for) it was generally a POS beaten up Focus or even worse an older Escort.

VW could have kept us happy if they actually valued their customer and supported their product but alas their service blows bigtime and the car was a minor problem nightmare that required often times four visits just to get one thing fixed correctly and in the process they would break another five.

the 9-2x has a 2.0l boxter engine with a turbo...i'd rather have that than the VW.

the overall power and performance of the 9-2x Aero was night and day to the VW...with the VW the turbo would wind out and it still felt like it needed more go...with the 9-2 we couldn't get it going fast enough even though we were on it for a decent amount of time, plus cornering in the 9-2 was much better than the VW, all in all a much surer feel and hold of the road, for about 5K less than the cost of a new jetta and your first two years of maintence is included at no cost which includes oil changes and free loaners...VW doesn't even give you a glass of water when you go in there :)

Oh how all have become enamored with power :) I remember just a short few years ago when the WRX first came out and people thought that 222HP in that car was the holy meccah. Now it's just "adequate"

at least it's new... I hate when people say "I bought a new car" but it's actually a used car.
