Wife and I can't handle our new puppy, will breeder refund us?

We got a 7 week old Boston Terrier less than a week ago for $650 from a breeder. We have been researching and preparing for months but sadly and embarrassingly we can't handle the little guy. I do not want advice on how to deal with the puppy or how we should tough it out. We just can't do this.

We want to give the breeder the dog back. She still has the rest of the litter (3 other males) so I know she'd take him back. The question I have is it likely there will be no question in her refunding our money? Any advice on how to approach this?

I don't know, I mean, I guess you'd just have to outright ask, but not in the sense of "Here's the mutt, I want my money back"

Why on earth would she give you a full refund? She'll probably take it back, and you'll get some money if you are lucky.

I am sure the breeder would be willing to refund you. They (the responsible ones) would rather give the money back for the dog to ensure it is in a healthy environment (where it can be given the attention it needs).

thats a good question to ask before you spend $650 on an animal.

Some people may take that the wrong way. Its kind of like asking the adoption agency for a child to some poeple. "what is your return policy?"

I agree to a certain extent. I think you'll at least get a partial refund. Wait, I just read you only had it for a week. I think you should get a full refund, especially if the breeder still has the rest of the litter there.

I feel for you. My uncle adopted a guatemalan boy. Everything was going well for a while and the boy was very happy, but he decided the effort wasn't worthwhile so they sent the boy back. Life can be tough when you adopt.

Unless you bought from a puppy mill, she probably will. Reputable breeders generally want their dogs to have good homes, and they often have a waiting list for puppies.

I forgot how nice people are on this board. Don't respond anymore. I called, she is giving us a refund, you guys are assholes.

Why are you wasting time here... just call or go by and tell her your situation. I wouldn't ask for a full refund though b/c why would she go through the trouble. Just ask for $500 or so assuming that she will be able to sell the dog again for $650 - negotiate.

many reputable breeders will refund the purchase price to replace the puppy in a qualified home.

Most quality breeders will refund your money. They'd rather be out the $$$ than see their dogs in a bad situation.
