So I'm calling MS because the copy of Office 2k3 that I'm using has been reinstalled one too many times. I get this guy name "Dean". I say "Dean", because it was clear he was in an Indian call center. I think he was trying to figure out a way around the call centers proxy.
He says to me, "We are running a contest and if you answer correctly you'll never have to activate again."
I reply, "Not really, just give me my confirmation code."
He says, "Here is the question. If your company is on a domain, and uses a proxy to connect to the internet, and that proxy blocks Yahoo IM, how would you bypass the proxy?"
I was like, "Hell if I know, use a web based client?"
He says, "I don't believe that is correct, would you like me to google it?"
By this time I'm beginning to get slightly perturbed. He's wasting my time while I'm sitting @ work trying to activate this stupid product. He continues to hit me up for answers, giving me the options (clearly ones that he in the call center has) that I could do.
He says, "You can use any dos command, or change the internet settings."
I said, "Look man, I don't know. Just give me my code."
He kept going on about how he could posibably change the proxy setting.
Finally I say, "Look dude, just give me the damn code."
He says, "Ok you lose the contest though."
After all of that, he gives me the code.
So, an annoying 5 minute phone call turned into an even more annoying 15 minute phone call. Is there anyone @ MS who I could call that would give two s**t's? I swear, activation only messes with the people who actually pay for the software.
