Wierd, yet annoying Firefox problem

Sometimes when I am opening multiple tabs, FF just locks up. Will not refresh or anything. I close all instances of FF, and when I restart, It asks to choose a user. The first couple of times, I had to make a new user, because it said firefox is in use. I lost all my bookmarks.

I am having the problem still, but have found a workaround. When I open task manager, fire fox is listed as a process, even though it has been closed. If I kill the process, I can then open FF and all is good.

Except this is not right. Why is it when firefox goes buggy, it does not close in task manager?

I am running XPHome SP2. I have 512 MB ram.

alt-ctrl-del and see if an instance is still running

i get this to some times and have to end task firefox.exe to get it working again

I used to have the same problem. Check your extensions for updates.. if updating doesn't solve it, disable all of them. If that fixes the problem then enable them one by one until you figure out which one is causing the problem.
