wierd xp pro question

so it seems like when i install xp pro i get one of two possible screens when the machine finishes the installation:

1) straight to the logon screen or;
2) a screen where i can enter users names and am given the choice of activitating the package.

i've installed it a fair number of times now and can't see any correlation between other events and which screen i get. wtf? shouldn't this be completely deterministic? are they using phase of the moon or something? i'd love an answer to this one ... !

thanks,

joe

Is this occuring with the same installation CD?

If it is not, then the build/service pack difference between the CDs is the answer.

i believe so, but i guess i couldn't swear by it. the cd in question is a pretty early version of xp. i do have two other cd's that are later builds. is it even possible that this would happen with the same cd?

I have noticed this too.. Not sure what the basis is for their choice. The only thing I can think of it might having to do with whether or not Windows detects if it has internet connectivity. If not, it goes to the login screen, if it does, it runs through the user setup.
