Most warning labels are placed there, because someone tried to do the thing that is being warned against, got hurt, sued, and now the manufacturer is trying to prevent more stupidity.

I think manufacturers are trying to prevent liability claims - not stupidity. To prevent stupidity would be a thankless, never ending task.

Power tool and lawn mower manuals are a great source for 'duh' instructions.

The only one I can think of off hand is the package of silica gel that they put in beef jerky, and they tell you not to eat it. I'm not sure who'd eat a pack of mystery substance they find in food, but there's a warning for them.

old, at any rate, some of those are there for legal reasons. No purchase necessary for example, obviously they want you to buy it to enter the sweepstake, so the details are inside

didnt a woman burn herself on hot coffee from mcdonalds, sued and won because it didnt say "caution: hot" ?

Actually the stupid thing about that case is that there was a warning label on the coffee.

On a bag of Fritos: You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside.
This....doesn't seem like a warning.

Jackhammer: Not to be used as a sex toy.

My grandmother joked that she'd sue them if their coffee wasn't hot. She drinks coffee black, strong, and pretty goddamn hot.

The list of warnings that came with our new TV was so long it was ridiculous. I think there were at least 30 different warnings.

The warning on the .22 needs to be there because a lot of people honestly dont know they are deadly.

As for me: I once got a girlfriend a nice garterbelt and expensive silk stockings for her birthday. Took her out to a nice french place in town.
On the way out the door she snagged the stockings and we needed a quick replacement. She said Walmart has some cheap-ass nylons and we could swing by there on our way to dinner. While standing in the checkout (looking insanely conspicuous as we were) I noticed on the back of the stocking package was a warning they were not to be used by anyone under 12 years of age.
