I have 3 mobo, P3v4x, same model, same bios version (1.003). 2 of them detect old (Fujistsu ultra33, 3 Gig or 6 Gig)and new ultra 66 or 100 (Maxtor). The 3rd one, only detect new drive ultra 66, detect wrong drive ultra 33 and give error message as "Master drive fails", the drive motor spin down and stop. Do I have to update my bios to 1.005 ? I tried to do that but got the message when read the file p3v4x105.awd that boot "sector not the same, are you sure to continue", too scared so I cancelled the bios update. Any help will bw greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Boot block not the same is a normal message....just go through with the flash: there is nothing wrong.

Thanks AndiHui, bios flashed to 1.005. But still can't detect the old drive fugitsu. I have some old drive of 3 and 6 Gig and I would like to use them. It's wierd that 2 mobos can detect, except one. I tried everything, change cable, change power supply, change CPU but unsucessfully. Could it be the chipset Via of the mobo, defected? It works great with the new drive 40 gig.

Have you set the jumpers on the back of the hard drive correctly for master and slave?

Yes, I did. Because, I use hard disk box, so I moved one harddisk from one machine to the other one. Because I used same hardware for both machines, then I can boot with any Harddrive. Anyway, I have one harddisk at the time, so it's always master, and with the same Fujitsu HD, it was detected by only 2 boards. The 3rd board detected, but give the wrong name and size. It has been detected as 6 Gigs and then stop. AS I mentionned, mobos are both Asus P3V4x, now flashed to 1.005. It's really wierd.

Which board revision do you have? It should say it in the middle of the board under the model number. I think I heard something once about earlier revisions having problems like the one you described.
