Out of nowhere, my Sony CPD-G400 Monitor just will not work. I can't remember HOW it happened but no matter what I do now, it just displays "Monitor is in power saving mode." I've checked all documentation (and found nothing) and performed a self test (which succeeded).

I can connect my machine to my old NEC MultiSync and it works fine. No matter what I try, I cannot get a signal on my Sony. However, if i hold down the mouse-type button on my Sony for over 5 seconds, the monitor seems to ATTEMPT to display the signal which looks like a blurred out version of my desktop that flashes on and off the screen.

NOTE - even when booting up, the Sony does not show the DOS command line stuff - No signal at all.

Any ideas? I gave Sony support a brief stint, but after following the automated instructions, Sony tells me to contact my hardware manufacturers - and then HANGS UP!

Again, any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance. Note I've only had this monitor for a few days, and a problem like this is a real bummer!

I had a simular problem with an NEC 17" monitor. I had to keep turning it on and off real fast until it "grabbed" the signal. I chucked it because it was out of warranty and got a noname trinitron tuber. If your monitor is still under warranty I would send it back.

Do you have another video cable to try.. maybe a pin is bent or broken? BTW, are you using the BNC or HD15 connector on your monitor?

Recieved my new Matrox G400 video card today - swapped it in and the Monitor works now! Maybe it is a problem with my old nVidia TNT card and Sony Trinitron monitors.

Thanks for the help!
