Wierd Power Problem

Hey, Im working on building a computer for my mom, and i was able to scrounge up enough spare parts from my friends to build her a pretty decent system. Here are the specs:

kt3 Ultra2-C : Via kt333 msi
Athlon 1.2 @ 1.33
256Mb PC2100 2-2-2-5 1t
10gb WD 7,200 2Mb
Nvidia Vanta 8Mb
Aopen NIC
Coolermaster 350 watt PSU

OK, so heres the problem. The computer runs fine, starts up and is stable through 24 hours or more of Prime 95 at my overclocked settings. The problem lies with power outages. Im going away to college so im trying to set their computer up for automation. I changed the BIOS option to "turn on if power fails" or whatever and heres the ticky part:

When the power goes off and the computer turns back on nothing happens - fans and hdd spin but no beeps or video output. If i clear the bios and set everything back the way it was its fine again - untill the power goes out again. I know it has nothing to do with my OCing cause the same happens when its at stock. What do you guys think the problem is? I'm completely baffled. If i cant figure anything out - i might as well get a UPS for them, although idd prefer a more perminant solution.

Try swapping out the power supply for a known-good unit. You might try replacing your motherboard battery. Please post your results back to this thread. :beer:😀
 
I actually just tried an Antec 350 i knew to be working fine to no avail. I already changed the CMOS battery and that too made no diffrence. My mobo already has the newest BIOS, so it has nothing to do with that. Thanks alot,

Try removing any PCI cards, and install a different stick of RAM to see if the problem persists. Check the motherboard very closely with bright light for any signs of capacitor damage (indicated by bulging or leaking capacitors) - small power issues such as these may be indicative of failing capacitors on the motherboard.

It might just be a flaky motherboard, I would contact the MB manufacturer and inquire if they will issue an RMA.

I have this same problem. My system has been fine for about a year, a few times it woulden't boot the first time around, the monitor's LED would just go to idle mode and no picture would show. The system would just sit there fans spinning but nothing else.
Recently I tried to boot up and nothing. It just sits there with the fans on showing code 25.
I tried booting with just the psu/cpu mobo graphics and ram, but nothing, not even beeps. I cleared CMOS, tried an old graphics card, I tried switching the ram and trying each single sticks , nothing.

I have amd 64 3200+
epox 8kda3+
2 x mushkin 512 mb DDR400 ram
antc smartpower 350W psu

I took out cpu, reseated it, reseated vid card, reseated ram, tried switching hard drives, nothng seems to work.

This seems a common problem with people, someone PLEASE help. I dont know what else to try.

this sucks to hear, but you should try a different mobo. especially if you aren't getting any beeps. i had this problem before, and the only solution in my case was a new mobo. good luck, and sorry OP for the threadjack.
 
Just found out that it was the video card all along. Swapped in a new one and it booted right up.

BFG tech Ti 4600....farewell old friend.
