k i havea wierd question/problem. i have a cable modem connection and 802.11b router by microsoft. i have a laptop that connects via wireless nic and i also have a cat 5 nic and ive tried both and it cant browse the network.

ive had this laptop for a few months and have reinstalled windows 98 then upgraded to win2kPRO immediately everytime and it picks up my network and browses my other pc's no problem.

earlier this week i reinstalled windows 98 then did the ugprade to win2k. and everytime i click on network neighborhood then browse network it says "unable to browse the network. the network is not present or not started."

its never given me any problem i cant even add a network.

whats going on?

LMK if this isnt enough info

So it works when you first install 2K, and then it just stops working suddenly?

no the previous times ive had win2k installed, its works, not setting nothing up. i reinstalled monday night due to a software problem. loaded win98 up then upgraded to win2k but it keeps saying unable to browse network which it has never done.

it does get on the internet/aim/etc though

Ah, ok, got ya now, sorry. Make sure file and print sharing is installed on both systems(should be on by default but ?). Doublecheck to make sure both systems are on the same workgroup.

Control panel, network connections, right click whichever connection you're dealing with, properties. Then you just click add to add whatever service, protocol you want. It should have File & Print sharing listed already, if not, add it(listed under microsoft).

To change workgroup, right click my computer, properties, network ident. tab, click properties, then change your workgroup to whatever you want.
