When I install either the Detonator 6.18 or 6.26 Drivers I have problems shutting down Win Me ( the Card is a Generic TNT2 32meg). Every time I try to shut down, I get a Windows protection Error telling me that I need to restart the computer. If I go back to 5.22, everything is OK, Ideas anyone?

System specs are:
Celery 366@550
Abit BF6
128meg PC100
Seagate Madalist 5400rpm
Generic TNT2 32 meg 140/160
S/Blaster 128
Win ME

It is a known problem with the 6.xx series drivers. If it bugs you too much, go back to the 5.xx drivers.

I hope they fix it soon. Its been there since the 6.11 drivers.

1) the 6xx drivers are buggy as hell
2) The TNT2 series hasn't had a true driver upgrade since 3xx. It's all been GeForce optimizations since then. Try 3.68 and be done with it. :)

Before you condemn the Det 3 drivers out of hand, try the Win98SE shut down patch. The Det 3 drivers up to and including 6.26 perform flawlessly for me with my Visiontek GeForce MX card. It might just be that you are blaming the wrong culprit.

It's true that the Dt. 3 drivers don't bring performance improvements for TNT cards (sometimes performance goes down a bit).
But, Robotech, they are not buggy. They run fine and fast with my ELSA Gladiac 32. The only issue I found was with the control panel of the 6.18 and maybe 6.26 drivers. It doesn't restore previously saved D3D settings correctly.
They are optimized for the Geforce chips, not for the TNT/TNT2 (which isn't good news for TNT owners, I admit).

Mephisto and dkozloski,

check any graphics video forum, ESPECIALLy the nvidia newsgroup. There are an ungodly # of posts due to buggy 6xx drivers.

Hey, I have NEVER had issues with Win98, but I know damn well that I'm pretty lucky. Do I trumpt "windows 98 is a stable, highly efficient operating system" just becuase I've been lucky enough not to have problems?

nope.
