basically widescreen in general

Yeah having almost 2/3 of a widescreen frame cut off to fit my 4:3 TV is the ONLY way to watch.

That's some interesting math.

Okay, so it appears from everyone's stated resolutions that pretty much all computer widescreen is 1.6:1. Which is crazy since all movies are like 1.85:1, or even 2.35:1!! If they were going to make the move to widescreen, why didn't they just copy movie ratios directly?

Ditto.

Even on a larger wide screen, though, I understand the desire to have more height when working with applications. It only feels comfortable when certain programs aren't maximized... which in itself, is uncomfortable to me.

I usually just turn on an extra pane or something to fill the void.

For the same reason that widescreen TVs are 16:9 instead of 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 - to work with ALL widescreen movies.

So there are a good deal of movies that are "less widescreen" than 1.85:1? Such as 16:9? I figured they were all at least the former, if not all 2.35:1 nowadays.
