Widescreen monitors?

I'd like to get a widescreen monitor to watch DVD's in my room. I'd like to get a decent-sized one, at least 21", but not huge (I still want to be able to use it as a regular computer monitor). About the only possibilities I see are some of the smaller plasma TV's, which might break the bank. Anyone know if these are worth the price as a computer monitor? I know it'll look good playing dvd's, but what about gaming? Are there other possibilities I don;t know about?
