Widescreen monitor in 4:3 res?

I've got an Envision G22LWK widescreen monitor (1650x1080), and I want to run it in a non-widescreen resolution, but not stretched. I want to play Starcraft (a game that doesn't offer widescreen resolutions), but I don't want the game to be stretched.

Is there any way I could make my monitor so that it doesn't stretch the picture, and just has the black bars on the sides instead?

two ways that i know of: monitor settings and nvidia graphic card settings. you can usually tell the monitor not to stretch resolutions in the menu, alternatively, go into the NVIDIA graphic card drivers. (if you have ATI, you'll need to find the equivalent by yourself) and select "Change Flat Panel Scaling" and then select "Use Nvidia Scaling with a fixed-aspect ratio." this will make stretch it, but keep the 4:3 aspect ratio.

ATi's is called "Centered Timings".

If the monitor doesn't support 1:1 pixel scaling it might not work though.

nah. star craft never worked. it only supports one resolution: 640x480. kind of pathetic, but for it's day, it was sufficent. hopefully, star craft 2 will come out soon.
