2 main things that made my decision was all the good reviews on here and all the extras/features the dell has.

thinking about getting a 20" widescreen lcd monitor eventually.
does anyone have link or pics of games played on widescreen vs. regular?

i currently have a 19" acer al1912, any idea how it would compare in size to a 20"? would it be taller, shorter, or about the same height?

That site has helped so much in my transition from the Dell 2000FP to my new 2005FPW. They have hacks and more to get most games working at a widescreen res.

widescreen is much better for gaming a wider peripheral view. I suggest Dell 2005wp or 2405fpw

Most of the comparisons I have read have specifically said do not get the Dells due to their poor quality. I will be going with a Viewsonic myself.

No complaints here 🙂

I'll wait for an HDCP compliant monitor from Dell

Check out Dell's 2007FPW, it's the exact same price as the 2005FPW, iirc

It was on sale a few days ago for $336.75

I bought my 2005FPW TWO DAYS before it went on sale. That sucked 🙁

hopefully i won't have any resolution problems with the dell monitor.

my monitor doesn't seem to like to run at 800x600 or 640x480 (not that i run games at those resolutions, but a lot of games are set to those by default and unless there's an easy ini file to edit, i'm screwed.

any issues like that with the 2005fpw?

I disagree. I had a 2005FPW for a while, and almost NO games support widescreen. Since it doesn't letterbox games, you get this stupid stretched-out appearance.

And movies still have letterboxing. WTF? I wasn't happy, I should have gotten the 2001FP instead...I ended up selling the 2005FPW because widescreen is pointless.

They're trying to convince themselves that jumping on the bandwagon wasn't a huge waste of money? 😛

you could've just turned off scaling in the monitor menu to get letterbox; and as for movies, widescreen computer monitors have an aspect ratio of 16:10 instead of 16:9 for most movies. just 2 tiny strips, not a big deal.

WOOT!!!

it came today! its frickin awesome! i love the space

gonna take a little getting used to for web pages and stuff though, but i could always resize the windows

loaded up CoD2 and its looks awesome on widescreen

now i still have 1 problem though.

i try to play planetside and i still can't get it to display anything but i hear the sound. it must have something to do with a setting on my video card or something. i can't figure it out though.

edit: fixed the planetside problem. it has something to do with saitek keyboards and certain functions they have. frickin weird.

just thought of another question. the usb ports on this thing, are they like a usb hub or what? i connected the cable from the monitor to the pc but they don't seem to be working.
the sheet says they are upstream and downstream usb ports. wtf does that mean? never heard of usb ports talked about that way.

edit: nvm about that too, unplugged the cord and reseated it and it works now also.
