widescreen graphics cards

I'm planning to purchace a widescreen LCD but I don't think my current graphics card supports widescreen resolutions (GForce 5200). I'm running at 1600x1200 now but I don't see the target 1680x1050 listed in the 'All Modes' section for the adapter.
I'm looking through newegg's product list but I cannot tell what cards support the target res. Is widescreen a new thing that most cards will not support? Am I looking at a ton of money here?

I think you need more information - Like what type of card are you currently using and the drivers.

 
newer drivers should support widescreen modes.

but then again, if you're gaming you might want to toss out that 5200 with something at least x800/6800 or better.

Are you saying the LCD software would provide the new res modes? Or am I looking for updated graphics drivers from NVidia?
 
When you plug in the new monitor and turn your system on, windows and your video drivers will detect the new resolution and allow you to run it through the display properties.
 
From what I understand, modern day monitors report supported resolutions to your video card which them reports them to windows. Do you even need drivers anymore?
 
The other replies are correct as far as the video drivers reporting resolutions supported by the monitor.

But I would say you aren't going to be happy trying to run 1650 x 1080 off a 5200. But on the other hand, if you're running 1600 x 1200 on that card you're already used to very low quality settings.
 
Yeah, I'm not a huge gamer, but I'll most likely be shopping for a better card before too long anyway. It's that whole budget thing....one piece at a time, lol.

if the monitor you have right now does not support that mode it won't be there simply going into display properties and checking isnt going to give you the answer. you probably have a 19'' CRT right now right?

he's looking for a widescreen resolution so he's probably got a 20" widescreen.

I was saying right now he probably has a 19'' CRT so there isnt going to be a 1680x1050 mode in the display properties. unless the monitor supports it what he needs to do is find out if his card supports widescreen I am pretty sure with the new drivers you should be able to also there is probably people with gf4 cards that have a 2005FPW or 2405FPW and know the answer to his question.

I have a 2005FPW so yes i would of guessed a 20'' Panel.
