Widescreen and games

I just bought a 22" wide screen with a default resolution of 1680x1050. I have a Geforce 7600 GS. I haven't really been playing games (it worked well driving my LCD at 1280x1024) and I wanted to test it out at 1880x1050. Long story short, I don't think the card can drive it. Before I go waste money on a new card, is thee a way to make my secondary (1280x1024) play the games without a performance loss?

You should just be able to switch the primary and secondary display in the driver. That way when you open a game, it will run on the 1280x1024 screen. That being said, if your games were running perfectly smooth at 1280x1024 you can probably run them at 1680x1050 also. What game(s) specifically are you referring to? Also, if you have any issues getting a game to work in WS format, make sure you check http://www.widescreengamingforum.com

I have a 6600gt and used to play games at 1024x768. I picked up a 20.1" Acer AL2051W and it drives games at acceptable frame rates with details turned way down @ 1680x1050. Heck I maxed out FarCry visually (Except for 4x AF and no AA) and it stays at 30+ FPS. The 7600GS should be able to do the same.
