Widescreen 16:9 no longer fills the screen with HDMI/DVI cable

I just installed a HDMI/DVI cable (previously used compnent) to connect my motorola cable box (DVI) to my Samsung HD TV (HDMI). Using this cable the widescreen picture option no longer fills the screen (ie looks like 4:3 picture). When I switch TV image to display 4:3 the picture gets even smaller.
During one power off/on cycle I saw a message that my HD signal had been compromied and to use component cable.

When I disconnect the HDMI/DVI cable and re-connect component cables I still do not get a widescreen picture.

I do not understand what is going on. Any ideas?

I think your problem is in the cable box. Sounds like the box's aspect ratio got changed and it's no longer setup for widescreen.

There should be a setup menu for your cable box. On my cable box I had to hold power and menu on the cable box for 5 seconds or something. Look it up on google for your specific brand and model.

From this menu, you can auto detect resolution capability and configure the cable box to display 16:9 instead of 4:3.

Thanks for all the feedback.

After turning everything off for several minutes and going back to my original connections/cables my picture was back to normal. During one attempt to use the HDMI cable I saw this warning pop-up on my TV screen: HDCP Authentication failed use YPbPr. I Googled HDCP authentication failed and it seems there is a "security" conflict between my cable box and the HDMI/DVI cable. If cable box had HDMI vs DVI connection it would not think the conncection was trying to be pirated. When I use the HDMI/DVI cable my HD channels are widescreen and perfect.

This link was very helpful and explained my problem.

I will try a component AV switch to optimize my cable connections.

Update: I connected a new DVD Recorder with coax cable out from cable box to input of DVD-R then to TV. DVD-R is connected to TV with component cables. When viewing TV channels passing thru DVD-R I get my widescreen on all channels.
