wide-angle, and telephoto lenses. eos 300d canon (digital rebel)

like a 200mm telephoto lense, and a wide angle lense.

where should i look, and if ebay, what terms should i use to find the lenses i want?

i dont know much about lenses, my dad does, but what would be a good lense to get?

SLR camera lenses aren't measured in "x's" of zoom, they're measured in mm. A 70-200mm zoom lens is probably what you're looking for, and any lens that's compatible with Canon SLRs will fit the 300D.

200x?

I'm not really sure what that is in mm...

But 3x on my camera is like 105mm on a 35mm. So if you extrapolate(no idea if you can really), 200x would be... ~6900mm?

Hmmm... I don't think it works like that. 😉

Here you go, biggest zoom I could find... lol

:Q

i edited it damnit 😉, and i edited it before you posted too. but i think you researched before you posted.

I've seem some pretty good stuff come out of the 18-55mm kit lens. For the price you can't beat that one, but you would have been better off getting it with your camera, because I don't think they're selling it separately yet. There's a 55-200mm zoom, but I haven't looked at any samples yet. If you have some extra money the 70-200mm f/4 L is definitely worth a look. If you have more money the 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS is what you want, but be prepared to pay. Before browsing eBay I would check out the Classified forum at Fred Miranda's site. There's new stuff there everyday, and everybody knows everybody else, so it's a very safe place to buy.

i have the 18-55mm lens, my dad just wants some other lenses to play around with.

im still trying to figure the camera out completely.

but he really wants the wideangle the most.

and, well. maybe <200$ would be a decent budget to set lol.

Well, if you want wider than 18mm, you have a couple choices. Sigma has a 15-30mm that a lot of people like. Canon has a 17-40mm f/4 L that runs $700ish I think. There's also the 16-35mm f/2.8 L, which runs $1400ish.

Another option is to get the 15mm fisheye from Canon, and then use software to correct it to a rectilinear perspective. This results in a very wide field of view, but it's another task to perform on each image you take with it.

Oh, there's also the 14mm f/2.8 L, but it costs $1700, and seems to be pretty crappy.

But in all honesty the 18-55mm should be wide enough in almost all cases for the average shooter. The widest lens I own is a 24mm f/1.4 L, and there have only been a couple times when I wished for something wider.

so hmm, telephoto lenses. is their any "cheaper" slr lenses?

Lirion knows more than anyone else on these boards about Canon digital SLRs and lenses. You will not go wrong following his advice.

That said, I know a wee bit. Cheap lenses give poor pics. You can get fixed length lenses, and they are considerably less expensive for non pro quality, but decent. If you cheap out and get a 50 buck lens (assuming you could find one) you will either toss it or the camera or both. It is not the fault of either, in that if you buy cheap, you get cheap. You pay for what you get.

There's always third party lenses, like Sigma, Tokina, and Tamron. I'm not too familiar with any of these offerings. Try to find sample pics from anything before you put money on the table.

oo, your like the opposite end.

so hmmm. i think then if 18mm is a good lense, that telephoto would be the way to go.

to bad the old minolta lenses we had wont work (ocean took the camera and washed it with some salt water)
