Because if people could use cellphones on airplanes then they wouldn't need to use the extremely expensive onboard phones.

That's the reason you can't use a cell phone, too much stress on their system.

No the reason you can't use cell phones is because it would be noisy..

Imagine 100-200 people all talking on their cell phones the whole way.. arrgh.
