What are some good GSM ones? I want to access the internet without those damn data plans.

First off, the internet experiece is dissapointing at best on a phone, even a ppc/smartphone. That being said, how much do you want to spend? You could find a used Nokia e61i for around $150 used on ebay. Also, look at MDA/8125, Cingular 2121/htc faraday to be about that price range as well. It just goes up from there. Personally, even though Ive been using WM phones for a few years now, if I had the cash, Id look at a nokia N95. Dont get the 8gb modle as it wont do 3g in the US.

The MDA/8125 looks like it's within my price range so I'll check that out. I would love a N95 but I'm too poor.

I have the candybar-shaped Qtek 8310 / iMate SP5. It's definitely nice, but the joystick is dying after about a year of use.

I used the T-Mobile Dash for a year (switched to a Moto Q9 yesterday). Good phone.

Keep in mind that wifi drains battery life rapidly. I was initially not planning on paying for a data plan, but now I can't live without push email and Google Maps and a 100 other little mobile website that make life a little bit easier. If you decide to take a data plan, choose a 3G phone over a GPRS phone.

So far I've had the t-mobile SDA, Dash & just got a Wing.

They're not bad...

Alternately you could get a Nokia n800 or n810, they're the ultimate geek toy :)

I've used the T-mobile SDA (HTC) for about a year and love it. I am running WM6 on it and usually use teh wifi while at lecture classes or when I need to check my email and don't have a computer nearby. I'm ready to step up to something with a full keyboard though.

I really like mine, gave mine to daughter's BF so they could stay in network & talk, daughter has one, I actually liked it more than the Wing, but I need s bit more screen, the wing is huge compared to the Dash.

Do you really need a phone to go with that WiFi? or the WiFi only? surfing through the net with a smartphone is a totally different thing when your on a pc, for 1 a phone does not have a full size qwerty keyboard so it would take sometime compising that e-mail. Why not buy one of those UMPC like the ASUS EEE then carry a regualr phone.

I'm using an HTC Wizard/Cingular 8125 but i still do my surfing on my laptop.

Skype has a WM client. On both of my WM phones, it will only do speakerphone unless you have a bluetooth headset connected, then it goes to bluetooth. There is also a program called fring that will do skype, msn, google talk, twitter, and SIP.
