Why'd you give me Bronchitis?

Bronchitis isn't necessarily something you directly contract from someone. You can have the flu or a cold and it can develop into bronchitis.

So I just gave you a cold and you smoke too much, so now you have bronchitis. Suck it.
 
I had a severe case of this last year. The cough lasted for 4 weeks. Highly annoying even thought everything else felt normal. I also had a mild case last month which follwed laryngitis. That one lasted two weeks but it was not that annoying.

Good luck. Meds don't help. They only made it worse for me when the floxin antibiotics I was given gave me joint pain... bad experience.
 
You have no one to blame but your own poor immune system. I guess you could blame your parents for giving you crappy genes but you may find that unsatisfying.
 
Well, I don't smoke so that's not it. I got a flu shot about 3mos back too.

I did get a small bout of bronchitis earlier this year but not quite this bad. Coughing like a MF. Hopefully it will pass soon.
 
I had a cough that lasted around 5 weeks, maybe 6. It was either bronchitis or pneumonia.
 
I don't bother with the flu shot. It runs on a system of a crap shoot. They attempt to predict what strains of flu they feel will be most prevalent for the year and adapt the flu shot for those strains.

There is nothing close to a guarantee you won't catch a flu after getting a flu shot. You can also have some negative reactions to the flu shot.

As much as antibiotics are unfortunately over-prescribed or prescribed when they are not indicated - bronchitis is something that does demand antibiotics. If you get it in the future ask your doctor for one called Zithromax in the 5 day dosage package. You take two the first day then one each following day for three days.

It's like a wonder drug as it's one of the newest antibiotics and has a unique formulation. I had a bad case of flu that developed into bronchitis a while back. Within a few hours of that first days double dose I felt 1000% better, it's that effective.

A good doctor will know the value of Zithromax though and resist prescribing it as the more it's used the less effective the drug is going to become.

While you're right on about antibiotics being over utilized, you are dead wrong about bronchitis being something that demands antibiotics. Acute bronchitis is overwhelmingly of viral etiology and requires only reassurance and supportive therapy for treatment. Bacterial causes of acute bronchitis account for between 2-10% of cases. As such, the vast majority of cases of acute bronchitis do not benefit in any way from antibiotic therapy.

I wasn't aware of that, thanks for the info. I'm no clinician, I have worked a lot on the pharmaceutical side though. Is chronic bronchitis more responsive to antibiotics then ? When I was younger I got bronchitis a lot, I was also a smoker at the time though, and antibiotics did clear it up - also as I noted in my experience with Zithromax.

I do remember getting throat swabs. Perhaps I was getting cultured to identify the infection and then receiving the antibiotics. This was a long time ago when I was still in school, so my memory is pretty hazy 😀

Took my last dose of my 6 day run of Azithro tonight so I'm hopin' for some relief soon...
