I just read about this elsewhere. I think they are trying to give it a human element, to let you know that it wasn't just two buildings and some planes that came crashing down that day. A lady was flying to Florida with her daughter that day but ended up crashing into the south tower. The only thing to show that she was there is her wallet.

I like the idea of showing these items, it's like showing personal articles found in newly discovered WWII airplane wreckage or something similar.

Not quite, a soldier has what he's been issued and a few personal items, this is just blatant aggrandizing. A civillians wallet should be treated with the utmost respect.
 
Disneyland is not in Florida.

And I'm guessing they put the person's stuff on display because that's all there is to represent that person (aside from a picture which is also there, but you can see a picture anywhere).



All of the hijacked flights were going from the east coast to California for maximum fuel load.
