Why, after many years of waiting for it, did Duke Nukem Forever have to suck?

It isn't that bad of a game. It got a bad rap from the haters and the early reviews that were expecting the Second Coming of Jesus instead of the Duke and acted like they got Satan instead
:whiste:

And the DNF patch is available
http://www.shacknews.com/article/69553/duke-nukem-forever-patch-now-available

This is part of it:

  • 4-weapon inventory option for single player
  • MP Server favorites
  • Dedicated server overhaul
  • FOV can be modified
  • Change VOIP to push-to-talk (bandwidth fix)
  • VAC anti-cheat system enabled
  • Support for Japanese Steam ID’s for PC release in Japan
  • Auto-aim fix
  • Blood effects on surfaces behind enemies when shot

Because years of anticipation and nostalgia skewed people's expectations of a game that's been bounced around different developers like a $5 hooker?

Because it was rushed and not enough time was spent on development.

Sadly, this is the reason. The version that was released was the turd 3d realms had slapped together with what lipstick gearbox could add to it in the time they had it.

That's why. Because the man behind 3D Realms destroyed it. Even though the initial version they showed at E3 in the early 2K's was well received.

Then FINALLY Gearbox picks up the IP, and tried to get it out... it was too late. I'm sure Gearbox did some GREAT improvements to the game from how they got it from 3DR, but it was too late. The game was too messed up, the story was too messed up, the voice work was already recorded... and too messed up.

Hopefully, though, now that Gearbox has the IP we will see a better game in the future in the form of a whole new title built from the ground up.

Its like a 90's game transplanted into 2011. Without anything else. Ignoring all those years of progress. Thinking it still was the 90's. What a fail.

I know it wasn't, but then I pre-ordered it because it was duke and have finished it before the patch was released (not interested in re-playing it).

While the game was good to have, some points have just reminded me why I hate console ports and why I should go back to avoiding them/inital releases/pre-orders.

Duke 3D to me has the best memories for multiplayer. I found the single player enough of a indicatin that I would hate multi, so did not even waste my time with it.

No worries Barfo, Serious Sam 3:BFE just announced an October 18th release date. 10% discount on pre-order, 20% discount if you already own Serious Sam HD. Croteam is cool like that.

Its like a 90's game transplanted into 2011.

There are many reason why DNF turned out to be a failure. This, however, wasn't one of them. I can think of several "90's style" games being released today that are hugely fun and successful, and it's because they pay homage to the run 'n'gun style of traditional shooters from the 90's. Serious Sam for example.

Yeah, I'm jumping on the Serious Sam 3 bandwagon too.
