Why...

I don't understand why this is such a big deal. Yea, its wrong, buy why keep beating on the subject? Who cares if Mcguire did them 10 years ago or if someones mistress says he said he did them?

the real question is... why do people care about baseball because of steroids...

it has tainted the record books, obviously. It should be seen as 3-hour entertainment-only... people care WAY TOO MUCH about the game and its effects.

Because baseball is so mind numbingly boring that they have to keep talking about stuff like steroids to keep any interest whatsoever in the game?

Or better yet, why do people even care about baseball. One of the most boring sports invented where people sit around and wait for hours for something exciting to happen

what's more annoying is all the cricket talk from time to time....for a while on FW there was an "OMG Get cricket matches on satellite for free" thread every 5 minutes.

Obviously you've never played baseball. Every pitch is exciting because you have to know what to do. The problem is that too many dumb people just say "Oh baseball is the most boring sport ever" without ever actually having played it. There is so much strategy involved that I doubt half the people would ever make the cut even on a JV high school team.

Little League is completely different, albeit very fun though. What I wouldn't give to have grown up in a neighborhood where "The Sandlot" could have been based on.

It's big because people are using an illegal substance to gain tens to hundreds of millions of dollars more, especially since baseball is America's pasttime.

Imagine if everyone here could just take some illegal pill and instantly double their salary, but not everyone did it, since it's illegal, but yet, your manager didn't really care. It'd be big news and I'm sure it'd upset a number of people.

haha i agree i hate baseball in general, but this is more to the hardcore fans that actually care

baseball IS incredibly boring if you dont play it. I play volleyball, and i love watching volleyball because of that, but I'd never expect the average person to find it interesting like baseball fans do.

actually, most other sports have "real" drug testing policys, unlike baseball.

I do not care about it.

Fans are always up in arms and complaining about professional athletes. Listen to WFAN for 10 minutes or so to see what I mean.

Which is why baseball fans such as myself really care about issues such as steroids. Baseball records are special such as Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak, Henry Aaron's homerun record...etc.

In other sports the penalties are a million times stiffer. When an olympian is caught they are BANNED. How about Tennis?? Aren't there are few banned players because of drugs? In the NFL dont they miss a quarter of the season for the very first offense?

In baseball its just 10 games for the first offense. 10!! Its a damn slap in the wrist and the whole policy is just garbage. I love baseball and baseball history and to see records be broken by cheaters angers me and I'm sure other baseball fans feel the same.

Of course I don't expect folks who dont like baseball to care but if it was your favorite sport and your favorite player you would certainly care.

I don't care for baseball anymore (ever since the strike) but it's really a joke. I'd liken the baseball drug test program to the farce that is boxing.

Wrong. I have played baseball for a year when I was in middle school. I have also played football for a year in highschool, played soccer for 12 years, and played basketball for a year.

I quit basketball cause I was not very good at it, and football cause it was a little too much work for the little enjoyment I got out of it. I quit baseball cause it was god awful boring to play when compared to playing soccer.

Raystorm has good arguments from a baseball fan point of view.

I hate baseball, and miss the normal programming that it disrupts. Thus the more bad news baseball gets, hopefully, the less popular it is. If this continues, maybe we can eventually end it altogether (or at least get it off TV). So I think it is a big deal. It makes me happy to further tarnish the stupid "sport".

baseball is fun to play when it's not competitive... that's why you see a lot of softball leagues for adults out there. MLB is a strategists' game (in terms of viewership). When you have steroids in the equation... it becomes... blah... who cares... watch it for the excitement then. And you can't even do that because it's hardly exciting... maybe once every 10 minutes or more.

I used to love the game until the strike... which opened the door to paying attention to other sports like hockey where something's always going on. I couldn't care less about MLB anymore. That is, unless the Mets start competing for real again... then maybe I'll see it as "exciting" because of the atmosphere surrounding the team. Does that sound like fair-weather fan talk ? Sure it does... but poor baseball can only hold your attention for so long... think about that.
