What's the hype about X-Box anyway...

It's slower than a PC
Worse graphics than a PC
Worse sound than a PC
Can't be used for anything than playing
Upgrade path = :Q
Less bang for the $$$ than a PC

You can put together a 800+mhz computer for less then 300? I don't think so. Don't forget about OS.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I am a firm supporter of the "My PC can whoop up your game console" but then I gotta admit, I can't play a lot of those games on my PC. I'd gladly buy X-Box/PS2 games if they'd come out with an official emulator so I pop the cd/dvd into my comp and pick up my sidewinder gamepad.

ok, and i suppose you prefer firing up your rig with a video out, keyboard and mouse connected, speakers/headphones all together in front of your 27" samsung....just so you can play max payne instead of a console?

i guess if gaming is all u want... then xbox is a better bargain. i mean... if u buy a gf4 ti4400 alone... that'd be a good $200+ itself.

XBox (or any console) doesn't have to support older hardware so the developer knows exactly how much power they have, and they use 100% of it, instead of compromising so the people with older stuff can even turn on the game.

A cheapo GF2 will still put you down 40 bucks.
Cr@pass case with powersupply is another 20, maybe if used.
during 1ghz and ecs motherboard compo is 89.
a stick of 256 sdram is 30 bucks.
You'll need at least a 5 gig hd and that'll be like 20 bucks.
The DVD rom will put you down another 40.
A sound card is like 15 bucks.
The heatsink will be 10 bucks.
Mouse and keyboard and gamepad will put you down like 30 bucks.

That's already 294. You still need software. The Xbox will be able to plug into your el-cheapo tv. If you wanna do that for the Computer, you'll need a monitor for like 60 bucks for a used 17". That, or just get it setup with a 30 dollar tv-out card. win98 will probably cost you like 50 bucks.

not my pc. xbox titles can be optimized at a lower level then pc titles, which is why they look so good. ever see dead or alive? oh wait, we're still playing ugly ass counter strike on pc:p

thats why its 300 dollars, and can play dvds;) my pc's tv output can't hope to match its hd output:p

less bang for the buck? the xbox is a 300 dollar dvd player, a game machine that can run games like halo that no current 300 dollar pc could hope to. build me a pc that could run dead or alive 3 and i'll gladly give you 300 dollars. oh yea, don't forget that controller and probably a hub. playing fighting games with a keyboard.. yea thats fun. ever wonder why these games basically never come out for pc? if they do they are nerfed anyways. oh yea, dvd games? pc games still use lousy cds. i love installing games where i have to shove in cd after cd.


xbox no crashie. no software virus. no pull hair out as some pos spyware program slowly kills my pc. no pulling hair out having to reinstall winblows. most people aren't techies either. no tweaking necessary. no having to deal with beta drivers for my new video card.


which systems plug and play? oh yes, the xbox. do i enjoy setting up my pc? no. i'd rather pay someone to do it.. driving the cost up. or have some techie build and set it up to my satisfaction. you could probably do it, but i don't trust a sniveling ignorant bitch like you.

I love the way you say "xbox no crashie"... except for that fact that you are totally wrong. Do a search on google for "xbox crashing" or somehting like that and there are a ton of places where they talk about xbox crashing on load times. Now, that is kinda strange for this wonderful console...

LOL!!!! So, with the PC you still have to buy software, controllers, monitor and a hub. So that means you are gonna dump $300 into the xbox and just let it sit there. Since you are interested in making a fair comparison, maybe you should factor in cost for Xbox software. Lets see, $300 for system. Isn't it like $20 for the thing that allows you to play DVD's? Another $34.99x3 for controllers, and your gonna want at least one game, but lets assume everyone buys two games, so thats another $100. Before tax thats about $525, ouch! I know I can build a PC with monitor and software for less than that.

I am no trying to insult anyone here, I am just trying to show that the Xbox is not quite as cheap as people may think. Sure, it is an awesome console, and if that is all you want, then hay, go for it. (I own a GCN myself :) ) Just don't ever try to compare the functionality of an xbox to that of a PC. That pc that can, in fact, cost less than an xbox (pay attention to the deal page on got apex, more than a dozen times now I have seen 1ghz celeron complete systems with cd-burners for $249) You are all PC users who probably know a fair bit about them so you don't need me to tell you that PC's have alot more uses, but like I said before, if all you want is games, then go for the xbox. Thats just my $.02
