I think your going overboard with the whole i wish they would have suffered in a terrible death, got what they deserved etc etc stuff.

Granted it was stupid and bound to happen and their own fault but still that doesnt mean they deserve to die in a gruesome painfilled way.

Show a lil empathy :\

Why show empathy? They knowingly got into a car with this guy knowing that he would be a risk to innocent people on the road. He didn't have a license and he didn't show any restraint toward the police. They knew he would be a risk to the innocents, so why feel sorry for them after they ignored that? I can only have empathy for someone with mitigating circumstances. I see nothing mitigating about this except for their age, but 13 is old enough to know right from wrong and have some idea of risk vs reward. They put innocent people at risk, strained the EMS resources, damaged public property, hurt their parents, and probably caused life insurance companies to pay out. That costs the taxpayer and the premium payer money. Why should I feel sorry or empathize with them? If they were all drunk would anyone be singing a different tune? For some odd reason people think drunks should suffer more than foolish kids. Both made terrible choices.

no kidding

i live in eastern nc, there are plenty of people driving who are lucky to be alive as it is considering how irresponsible they are when they drive, this does not shock or sadden me.

honestly: underage driver, overcrowded car, no seatbelts worn, speeding (on a spare, no less) trying to outdrive a cop

i take it back, i do feel sorry....for parents who had such unfortunately foolish children

Omfg, I cant believe the parents are saying "They were just joyriding". Thank God that in Finland you get your drivers license 18-years-old at the earliest, 16 is way too young, sometimes it feels like 18 is too young. Btw, Im 3 months away from being 18 and Ive never driven a car more than 3 feet, which isnt rare here. Almost nobody of my age can drive and they wouldnt dare to take their parents car so these kinds of accidents rarely happens to people under 18.

I've shed enough tears over the years for people that deserved them. These idiots certainly didn't. I guess I will start feeling sorry for drunk drivers now and the morons that ride with them. If you want to play Russian Roulette then go run on the interstate and lay down. It pisses me off that they tied up emergency workers for hours and probably caused a lot of people an inconvenience. They should have made the family come down there and get their bodies and have the car towed on their own dime. I hope the state sues them for reimbursement and it rains during their funeral.

The cop did nothing wrong, and these kids wrote their own destiny, but you are a sick person. Yeah, I wish they wouldn't have tied up emergency workers, but to wish they would have burned alive for hours takes a sick kind of person. I hope you never run for office outside of Germany.

Jeez Evan, you forget to take your meds this morning??LOL, how can anybody in their right mind be upset because kids who died didn't suffer more

Do you actually take time to read what you are about to post? Maybe you should use the 3 minute rule. Write up a post and wait 3 minutes before posting it just to make sure you don't come across as an idiot (which I don't think you are). All I can say is that if you really meant that then you might have some serious issues that might need addressing by a Professional.

Dude!! What about the Lambo cops in NFS:HP2?
I got pulled over in my McClaren. that should be impossible!!

on a serious note, first thing i picked up from the article was that there were girls in the car, killed as well. Would it be wrong of me to assume that girls dont usually start sh!t like that, only get dragged into it by kids who want to show off? If thats really what happened, then that REALLY REALLY pisses me off, like the video of the guy getting whooped on with the skateboard.

I cant quote everyone, but I disagree with everyone with the general statement of 'they all deserved to die'. being crushed to death in an upside-down car is no way to die at 15. kids do stupid sh!t, as do most... they just picked one of the worst and came out on the wrong side. Had they lived, you can bet your a$$ theyd have learned one helluva lesson

Yeah really. They were stupid kids for sure, but in the end they gave their lives for that stupidity. You're cursing them out like they raped a 1000 babies.

They were the ones joyriding around like little asses.

They deserved everything they got. Gee, lets go for a joyride with some punk 15 year old. Then when the cops chase us the moron driver can do 100mph with a FVCKING SPARE TIRE on. I honestly love when evolution charts its course in life. Too bad a fireball didn't take the whole town with it. I can only pray that they all go to hell and burn forever.

nice attitude problem.

Howard Hurtt said his son and his friends -- none of whom had driver's licenses -- had recently been borrowing cars from people they knew and going for rides. The car was reported stolen midday Monday by a Statesville resident who told police he had parked the car Sunday night, according to Statesville police.

Hurtt said he tried to get his son to stop the joyriding, but questioned why the group was pursued.

"I've always been told that the patrolmen should follow them, but don't push them," Hurtt said.

"They were just out joyriding and a cop pulls them over and here we have seven deaths. I lost my only son."

Bills, a four-year veteran of the Troutman force, told a local newspaper that he only pursued the car for about 500 yards before it sped ahead and out of sight.

Well, this father is definitely mistaken and I hope just evidently lost in the grieving process.

There was certainly a tone to that article that I didn't appreciate. The whole, "they were just laughing and having fun" thing rubs me the wrong way. That's a hell of a thing to say about a 15 year old kid doing 100mph in a stolen car with a donut on it. I do have some sympathy because I've done some stupid things (not that stupid though), but clearly these kids didn't have a proper respect for the dangers of what they were doing. Many people learn the hard way and get away with a few bumps and bruises when they pull a stunt like this. It's a tragedy, and hopefully one that will serve as an example to all the other stupid kids out there. For a little while at least.

How, by threatening to confiscate his drivers license?

"I've always been told that the patrolmen should follow them, but don't push them," Hurtt said.
Maybe your retarded son should not have stolen the car

"They were just out joyriding and a cop pulls them over and here we have seven deaths. I lost my only son."
That's interesting, I call it grand theft auto, evading arrest and careless and reckless driving.

"The Highway Patrol said none of the victims was wearing a seat belt."
I've yet to see an Intrepid with 7 seatbelts

At least the roads are a little safer now. The stupidity of some people amaze me. Thanks for leaving the gene pool.

7 morons steal a car and none of them have licenses, 2 of them are 18 and 17

Well....

I've kinda always thought that about police chases. Aren't they putting not only their own lives at risk, but the lives of the people they're now chasing AND the lives of the people the chasee may come in contact with?

I think that is a major thought when going into any car chase. They have to balance the dangers.

If they get too caught up in "getting them" without regard for safety, then I agree that they are in the wrong.

But we'll probably never know.

Read the whole article. It doesen't sound like the cop really even chased them, they sped away and then lost control all on their own.

Disregard my above comments. I don't think they got what they deserved.. especially the passengers in the car.. So sad.. 🙁

The Highway Patrol identified the dead Monday as driver John Lindsey Myers, 15, and passengers David Wayne Summers, 14, Quentin Maurice Reed, 18, Antonio Miller, 13, Domnick Hurtt, 17, Erica Stevenson, 15, and Antoinette Griffin, 13, all from Statesville.

Such a waste.

What do you expect to happen with the driver is 15? Did they not get into the car with him knowing he wasn't of age and didn't have a license? Did the article not say they had been doing it for awhile? It wasn't an accident... it was purely the result of stupidity. I can't feel sorry for anyone being stupid. I feel more sorry for Rex Krebs on the Cali death Row than these fools.

They KNEW it was stupid to be doing what they were doing, plus they had done it before. I just pray that they burn in hell.
Yeah, I agree with you for the most part.

Some of them were really young though. Try and put yourself back into that child mentality. Did you honestly think about everything objectivly, from a consequences point of view? I know I didn't... it's part of the learning experience of being a child.

Unfortunately these children didn't get to learn from their mistake. It ended with them dead. Were they stupid? Yes. Was it a complete and unnecessary waste? Yes.

That is the sad part, the part that invokes any sympathy.

You also have to take into account.. the passengers, while having a huge lapse in judgement even getting into the car in the first place, were still along for the ride.

For all we know, when the cop tried to pull them over.. half the people in the car yelled "STOP!!" when he started to speed away.

Not saying you're wrong, just trying to inject another point of view. I have a hard time accepting that they were all as dumb as a brick like the driver obviously was.

They were stupid enough to steal a car and let a 15 y/o without a drivers license drive and stupid enough to not buckle up. Therefore they got what they deserved.

This story reminds me of the one from a while back in Florida about three teens doing 100mph in a construction zone at night in the rain on a spare tire.

Guess it would have been joyriding if they had ran down some kids as well....

I think he is just in a bad mood this morning because the FDA banned Ephedra😉 Just kidding Evan, don't blow a gasket!

I think a lot of this stuff happens because there is little or no parental discipline. There are two kids in my neighborhood who are high school dropouts with no jobs. They abuse their cars, yet always get newer replacements when they break down.

"They were happy and laughing and having fun," she said. "It looks like they were out having fun last night, just doing their Christmas holiday break."

Right! In a STOLEN CAR. What is wrong with these people? They talk about the incident as if the kids were doing nothing wrong. They were doing everything wrong and In my opinion from reading some of the parents comments at least some of them knew or strongly suspected ("Howard Hurtt said his son and his friends -- none of whom had driver's licenses -- had recently been borrowing cars from people they knew and going for rides.") that these boys were stealing cars and joyriding. What kills me is so many of the adults quoted in the report talk as if this was the fault of the police which if the report is accurate it most definately is not. No wonder these kids were lawbreaking and doing stupid things with parents tha have no concept of personal responsibility.
