Who's to say it's diminished? How about they're simply comfortable with their vehicle at that speed and realize it won't add any significant time to their trip?

Next time you're going to try and tell me how so or fast I can push my cart in a grocery store, or how much time I can take at the drive-through.

There aren't enough people with California freeway driving experience on this forum for me to have a discussion about this with. Driving in Southern California is so much different than driving in other parts of the nation.

When on the highway if they speed limit is 70, most people are doing 75-80, why would you choose to drive 55 or 60? Especially during rush hour? Why?

When on a main street where the speed limit is 45 but most people are doing 50, why would you choose to drive 35? Especially during rush hour? Why?

What is the reasoning for this?

It drives me freaking nuts. I've started blaring my horn at people that merge into a 65 MPH freeway at 40 MPH when there is plenty of room to accelerate.

I drive in MI. The speed limits are regarded as what the flow of traffic should be. Go over to Detroit and drive 10 under and let me know how your day ends up.

Know what is worse? I hate when you are following someone doing 40 in a 55, they come to a 40 mph speed zone and whoa it up to about 30. ROAD RAGE SETS IN> AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Very good question and it's even worse here in Chicago where all the 3 lane Interstates are at 55MPH speed limit.

People routinely drive around 30 MPH making it appear as if they are stopped. I-90 is plagued with multiple rear end collisions daily.

There is a petition that the 3 lane highway Interstates be closed down because it is so unsafe that they can't handle traffic above 55MPH.
 
As long as slow pokes stay to the right, and the passing lane is actually passing, I don't give a shit.

The really slow people all drive in the left lane in Illinois.

If you want to drive the speed limit of 55 you have to be in the right lane. You won't get above 30 in the left lane.
 
You're what's wrong with drivers. The posted speed limit is the MAXIMUM, not the minimum. They're likely driving within their abilities, which is appreciated.

If their abilities limit them to 55mph on an interstate, they should turn in their licenses and take the bus.

All modern vehicles can easily and safely drive 65 MPH. If a person is mentally or physically unfit to be able handle driving at 65 MPH they need to get off the freeway. Same thing if their vehicle can't handle the speed limit. City/county streets do exist and go exactly the same place the freeway does. The freeway is for driving quickly.

I'm not someone who likes to be in a rush. I drive the speed I'm comfortable driving, even when I'm driving a new model vehicle. I have as much right to use the road as you do.
 
Maybe you guys should try just leaving sooner. This solves several problems including leaving room for unexpected construction, trains, flat tire..etc. So when you encounter a slow driver, you can have some damn patience and wait till its safe to pass. I leave 30-45 mins early for work, so i never feel the need to whine and cry over anything that slows me down, just more time to listen to my music and makes for a much more relaxing drive in general.
 
Your speedometer may be off? When I bought my oddysey, it clocked 5mph faster than it actually is going. There is was thinking I was going 55 when in actuality i was doing 50.
 
Could be any sort of reason, good or bad. Either way you can't press their gas pedal so learn to deal with it better.

Also, I always go above the posted maximum. I almost always jaywalk. I don't report everything on my taxes.

But I do the things I do, because I'm comfortable doing it.

Umm no...the speed limit is dictated by traffic flow. It's as much an offense to impede another motorist as it is to speed.

impeding traffic is only if the driver is going far enough below the speed limit, NOT if they are doing the limit and everyone else is doing beyond the limit.

Speed limits always take priority over the 'flow of traffic', insofar as those already speeding are breaking the law and

accidents come from driver error and not paying attention, not from slow driver.

I am thinking you are trolling now. Driving 10mph+ below the limit is much more dangerous than 10 mph above. There is a big reason all cars have third brake lights and that the whole brake light deal is very noticeable. This is all easily researchable.

People have a very hard time approaching a slower or stopped vehicle knowing they are not still moving at the same speed as the rest of traffic.

But yes in the end it's DRIVER ERROR and this is why slamming on your brakes for no reason made for a very nice lawsuit run.

True, and it is very difficult to judge how hard someone is slowing when braking unless it is full on panic braking and the front end dives while the rear lifts.

Add in your typical dumbfuck texting on their phone and you can see why rear end collisions are probably the most common automobile accident.
 
I went shopping today while it was raining. I drove well under the 65 speed limit, am I in trouble?

you could be if everyone else was trying to get around you and meanwhile you had you hazards on so they couldn't tell if you were stopping or turning or what not.

Hopefully you didn't have your high beams on as well.

Maybe because there's a few inches of snow/slush/white hell on the roads.

At least that's life here all winter.
