Why would you buy an Apple tablet over an Android tablet?

Title says it all...




Locked for reasons that are adequately summarized in kubani's post here. I will say that the discussion about AirVideo a few pages in was enlightening to me and so I know that I personally learned a few things. But on the other hand, this thread has also been a source of a bunch of reported posts and so I'm somewhat relieved to lock it.

Apps, screen.


For me personally I wouldn't buy a tablet. my 5.3" screen galaxy note does tablet/phone duties great.

almost no tablet apps on android

i know someone with a note, but don't know if the apps are optimized for that screen

- WAY better selection of apps & games
- better screen
- don't have to wait for OS updates
- better build quality
- more powerful GPU (same GPU as Playstation Vita, clocked 25% faster)
- OS feels more fluid and responsive

Really at this point I wonder the other way around; why would you buy an Android tablet over an iPad? I love Android, love my Galaxy Nexus. But I owned an Asus Transformer and found it rather useless for me. If I was to buy another tablet it would be an iPad just because of the apps.

I tried a New iPad, it worked really (really) well, fluid and simple - I can see why people rave about it, but it didn't do what I needed it to do without logging into my PC.

I have an original 32gb Transformer that, from where I sit, does the same thing the Apple does, just not as well. Not nearly as well, but at 1/2 the cost is worth keeping around for the wife to play Words with Friends.

I just picked up a Samsung 7 Windows Slate - that, so far, does everything I need it to do, is smooth, fast and responsive. I'm thinking about installing the consumer preview of windows 8 on it this weekend....

Better interface, lighter weight/better form factor. I used an iPad 2 for a while and absolutely hated iOS on such a large screen, there was so much wasted space.

I ended up buying a Motorola Xyboard 8.2 and like it much better, it has a better screen as well as an IR transmitter so it integrates seamlessly with all of my home theater components.

Seriously, I wonder why anyone would buy an android tablet at the same price point (or higher, which is just goofy). I use my android tablet (which I got for $200, which was a bargain at the time) for web browsing, email, etc. while my wife's iPad is an entertainment center in a little device - video chatting with her family (perfectly, not some half ass compromise), tons of games, tons of unique apps, tons of potential. I'd be very interested in a $200ish IC tablet as an organizer, but for a FUN device (that does everything else too), you can't beat the ipad.

Combined with airplay, the glut of accessories, and apple's build quality and support (something break? walk into a store and get same day service = woot!), I couldn't imagine spending $400 on a non-Apple pad.

Everyone likes apple because they make quality products with an eye for ergonomics, ui, ease of use, and style all while backing it up with some of the best support in the industry. Of course tinkerers will continue to prefer android

Probably because the like using proprietary cables instead of USB and like being ripped off on device storage without the ability of expansion.

What is this, 2003? What a silly complaint - apple's proprietary cable's as ubiquitous as micro-usb. Any 711 or gas station will have the cable and it can be had for a few bucks. What does the EVIL proprietary connection get me? The ability to use and control my ipod with my car stereo system, my various docks, etc. etc. The dock is SUPREMELY useful and there are no dock options for my windows phone (and android docks are rare too, and I'm not sure if you can control the device or if it's just audio pass through).

Expansion? Well, everything's moving to the cloud these days... But it's a valid point if you're a short sighted person that doesn't know how much storage you'll need in the long run :)
