Does it seem sort of odd that google would "turn the lights out" internationally for a local event? Does this mean google is going to start screwing with my home page more frequently? That's a crappy place to have an ad if you ask me.

Edit: I guess only Californians are supposed to be seeing this. I live 3000 miles from california and saw this page so i assumed everyone was seeing it.
The question is, is googles advertising on its main page a good idea?
