Why would an employer be interested in my graduation?

I am currently earning by BA and nearly graduating; I work part-time on campus, my employer usually hires students. I've been there for two years and on a few occasions he has asked me when I would be graduating and what my plans are after. I don't think it was just chitchat he has asked me directly during meetings.

Am I just being paranoid? Why is he so interested in my plans?

He's asking one of two things.

When he has to replace you, or potentially he might be asking you if you want a job after graduation.

Of course your employer is interested. As soon as you get your degree, your qualifications and expectations of salary change.

I wants to know how much time he has to find another student with no degree because he doesn't want to increase the pay.

In my two years there they have never hired any student full time, this department is basically a tightly-knit group of people that have known each other for 20-30 years, and as far as I know they don't even have full time openings.

So I guess If I ask for full time status they will probably deny.

QFT...one would hope a soon-to-be graduate could at least figure this much out.

I am under the impression that Common Sense has become one more animal on the endangered species list.
