Why wont WindowsXP let me install my Sound Blaster Audigy???

Compddd

am running a AMD 1,2 GHz athlon on a Abit Kt7 motherboard. 256 MB ram. Nvidia GeForce 256 DDR Video Card. Just bought a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card, but after I installed it in my computer, XP wont install it, keeps saying the data is invalid, from the installation CD.
I went to the store and exchanged it for a new one, but I get the same error. Cannot install this hardware, there was an error installing this device. The data is invalid.

Anyone know how I can fix this???????

Mistake #1: Never, never, never install drivers right from the cd that came with the box. Go to www.soundblaster.com and get the latest drivers and software for the card. That should take care of your problem right away. What kind of data invalid message do you mean? You're not talking about the "this driver is not certified for use under windowsXP" error are you? Which version of the driver are you trying to install? I usually try to pop in the win2k version if there's no XP version, but win9x versions will work too. Try them in that order after getting the latest drivers.

The drivers from Creative's site wont let me install them unless I have the ones from the CD installed first. And no, it gave me the not winxp certified message and I clicked continue and then I got the above error message in my first post.

Well I just went to creative's site to try and find the download for you. Apparently creative has changed quite a bit recently. Have you tried installing the software without the card in the system? If you can just get it installed you can then get the updates from the soundblaster website and apply them before installing the physical card. Also which version of the drivers were you trying to install? Did you try the 2k or the 9x drivers too? Have you tried putting the sound card into a different PCI slot?

procedure for installing software.
after you install the audigy & windows detects it & ask for drivers, cancel the search then autorun the audigy cd!

Thats a good point... were you trying to do the install through where XP detected the card, or the install through the software on the CD itself? Try restarting the computer and not canceling the autodetect. Then pull up the real installer from the CD

From what I experienced when installing xp with an audigy is just cancle the install when detected as the drivers supplied on the install cd do not work with XP you must download the Audigy XP drivers from soundblaster.com these seem to work fine for me.
