Why won't my monitor go to higher refresh rate?

Here's what I'm using:

Win2k Pro
Visiontek Geforce 3 (12.60 drivers)
Nec Multisync FP1350 22"

The computer is reading the NEC monitor, but under the refresh rates, the highest it goes to is 120hz and I know this monitor can reach 143hz at 1024x768. Am I doing something wrong, or do I have to install the Visiontek drivers?

Just wondering, why do you want refreshrates that high? Is it for 3d goggles or something?

My monitor is experiencing interference from power lines, and I think if I set it at a higher refresh rate it will go above the interference. And of course because I should be able to, and the fact that it won't let me pisses me off.:p

the interference may be caused by your monitor cables. if your NEC can support BNC cables, you should invest in a BNC cable connector. they're the one with 5 bnc strands on one end and a 15pin connector on the other.

One of the fastest and easiest way to kill a monitor is to max out its refresh rate! 120Hz is just too much for any homeuser. I don't think the interference will go away with higher refresh rate. Power lines transmit power at 60Hz, so it's not the frequency that's causing the interference but rather the magnetic field carried by the EMF. One solution is to move the monitor in a well shielded room or if there's none then invest in some kind of shielding material, i.e. like piece of metal sheet over the ceiling or above the monitor. Make sure the metal sheet is grounded.

Yup I installed the monitor drivers, and windows reads it as the correct model. As for interference, I am 100% sure it is the power lines 20 ft from my window. It can't be fixed, but it seems as the higher the refresh rate the lesser the waviness is. It's at 120hz and it looks ok, but still annoying. There must be a way to get my refresh to 143hz.
