Make a local account on the WinXP machine that matches the logon and password of your WinME machine. Share folder and set the permissions to allow that local account access. I typically just share the folder for everyone and set the NTFS permissions. NTFS overrides everything when it comes to access so I dont bother setting sharing properties for individual users. But I believe doing both will make it more secure.

The format of the drive does not matter when it comes to sharing as the network software will take care of transistion.

Make sure the firewall is not enable in XP. Check XP & ME are in the same workgroup.

I think something wrong with your ME has the network browsing problem. You can try to map the drive manual. Right click on the "My Network Places" and click on "Map Network Drive. In the Folder box type in \\xp_computer_name\shared_name and click Finish. Or at command prompt type in as the following:
net use * \\xp_computer_name\shared_name

XP has security issue when XP mixed with other OS and very different than win2k. Or you can try to enable the Guest account in the XP.

Did you try installing the NETBEUI protocol on both machines? This will frequently solve workgroup browsing issues. Here's a direct link to the files required for XP, since it's not installed by default like all the other windows versions. NETBEUI Files for XP

Well, the reason for NETBEUI is to get around the flaky workgroup browsing scheme in Windows, but if you're content typing the full network path everytime...

ok i have another question... since i already create an account for winme user ... winme user actually can login into my computer by using the passworld and username that i created for him .... I dont like ppl to logon into my computer, i just wanna share my selected files to them through network thats all. Usually i will logoff when i go out ... but since i already create and account for winme user , he can just login using his username and pass. Is there anything i can do ?

Go to "Administrative Tools" , "Local Policy Settings". Under "Local Policies" , click "User Rights Assnignment. One the right pane, double click "deny logon locally" Add the user(s) you don't want to have logon privs. ( Click the "Advanced tab, another box will pop up. from there click the "find now" button. You can then view the list of users and groups and just click on the ones you want to deny. )
