Hi All,
I did some searching and can't seem to find the right answer.
I have cable broadband and do not know much about DSL which my friend has and it seems that every time he reboot his computer he has to manually Connect to the DSL before he can go online.
Is their a way to have the computer connect to DSL as it boots?

Hi,
He goes to Network Connections and right clicks on the DSL PPPOE icon and selects Connect.

Your friend needs to go into the DSL Modem / Router configuration
and set the PPoE setttngs in there. That includes his User Name
and Password .. Also check the settings in the Browser are set
to "Never Dial A Connection" .. it may be as easy as that to fix.

Hi bruceb,
Thanks for the reply, but no router just a DSL modem.
I do not know how to get in a modem.
He already had the "Never Dial Connection" checked.

Type in the modems IP address and go to the admin page. You know, do IPconfig /all and look for default gateway, that is the modems IP.

If you do not know how to do this then please pick up the phone and call your isp...

Thanks,
I have done that with a router, didn't know you can do that with a modem.
But why would that have changed? He's had the DSL for over a year and never had to manully conncet before.

It usually can Not be done with a Modem.

However many of the so called Modems that are given in recent years by the DSL ISPs are Modem/Router Combo and the ID/PW of the PPPOE is already set into them.

It hard to figure out a decent advise when the OP does not really know what he/she are dealing with, a simple look at the device and providing its Model number can help to solve the problem faster, but I guess it is too much to ask for,
