the jews sterotypically controlled all of the money in mideval europe and it was against the doctorine of the church to charge interest etc.... the church believed it was immorral for someone to collect money without working for it (i.e: interest) and bascially hated the jews because they had power and the lay people didnt..

at least thats my understanding
