Morning,

Finally I have found a political forum on a tech website!

Just wanted to point out to all that may not be aware of this movie:

http://www.sonyclassics.com/whywefight/main.html

It was released in select theaters a few months ago, but unfortunately has not made it to a nation-wide release.

The movie focuses on Dwight D. Eisenhower's warning issued to our country in his farewell speech. Being a General in the U.S. Army he knew first had what war was about, and felt very strongly against spending a penny more in defense then we had to (Cold War going on during his term). Unfortunately, during his term he was subjected to a new power in motion, which he termed the 'Military-Industrial Complex'. It was a "coalition" of the Congress, the now privatized arms industry, and the military. He saw with it the corruption, and was powerless to stop it. During his farewell speech he warned the country against the possiblity of garnering unwarranted influence weather sought or unsought as a result of this.
Think for instance, why do we spend $450 BILLION a year on the defense (yeah right, more like offensive) budget? Consider that our real defensive priorities are receiving diddly-squat (port and border security). Because they don't generate profits. The defense iindustry is the single biggest money maker in the country and its profits come from our taxes.
Check out the link above and you can see many clips from the movie, some of which are sure to astound, considering the prominent speakers presented. I assure you, it's not spewing anything like Farenheight 9/11, it is not a "bash-Bush" movie. It spans several administrations, and the direction our country has taken. The movie was not released in theaters where I live, however I have managed to see it, and it has definately got me asking questions. I want to hear your opinions.

Also, a few months back, the genius director Steven Speilberg released a masterpeice called Munich. I'm wondering how many of you saw it? It didn't make a load of money at the theaters but it wasn't intended to. He created to make a point, and after seeing it, I'm sure you will agree with him.

On a side note, the other day I was just thinking: We are at war against terror, but does anyone have a real solution? The country of Israel has a VERY good military, a good, uncorrupted police force, yet they have been getting bombed day in and day out for over 30 years, and cannot stop it. So what is our solution to this? Personally, I don't think invading Muslim countries and bringing them into the western world is the solution.

Speilberg has the right idea, IMO. This summer he is going to get 500 personal movie cameras and give 250 to Palestenian kids and 250 to Israeli kids. He is going to have them record their personal day to day lives, hanging out with friends, going to movies, etc...and then make them swap. They will see that indeed they are one in the same, and all the hate is trivial. THAT is the solution, target the youth and show them the truth.

Anyhow, thought I'd point out these fine pieces of thoughtful film, and see what you guys have to say about them. Thanks!

EDIT: Grammar

Everything that is has to be just as it is. Our world is a reflection of who we are. Every human being is an egotist who is absolutely convinced that how he is right now is the very best.

Fences are quite possibly the worst invention of our species. If not the worst, definitely in the top 5. I think that idea of Speilberg's is genius.
