Why wasn't Shark Tale as acclaimed as the others?

I just finished it and absolutely loved it. I enjoyed it better than Finding Nemo, the cast was probably the best animated cast ever put together in one movie..and the story line was teriffic. I liked how there were two sides that were given equal "playing time", all the one liners "I just pimped your hide", and the overall somewhat maturer aspects to the movie.

Yet Nemo is in the top 100 list on IMDb while Shark Tale is only rated as a 6? Why is this?

Edit: Damnit I clicked vote on the default selection =/

I haven't seen it, so I don't really know. Possibly cause thte idea was a rip-off of finding Nemo. Come on, another animated movie about fish immediately after a vert successful animated movie about fish came out?

Because it was a ripoff of a movie that came out shortly before it did itself. Personally, I liked Finding Nemo better as well.

What the hell? Shark Tale and Finding Nemo are only similar in the fact that they are both computer animated films about talking fish in the ocean. Apart from that, they have totally different plots.

Part of Finding Nemo's success is that it was targeted toward and enjoyed by young children, and everyone knows that once kids of a certain age like a movie they have to see it over and over and over and over... That means a lot of money at the box office. I think the problem with A Shark's Tale was that it seemed to target a slightly older audience. All the previews I saw made it appear to be something that a teen or older moviegoer would appreciate more than a young child would. Maybe young kids just didn't get as excited about seeing it, or maybe if they did they just didn't "get it" to the extent that they did with Finding Nemo and Shrek and therefore did not beg their parents to take them to see it 47 more times in a row like they did with the other two.

i saw both

finding nemo was a good kids movie

shark tale tried to make a mob movie out of an animated film...in the ocean...and sucked long and hard.

If you think "I just pimped your hide" is the epitome of comic genius then you will never understand why that movie sucked.

I've seen both and visually Finding Nemo was far superior. I thought Shark Tales story and acting were okay, but found Finding Nemo to be better in both those areas as well. Shark Tale, in my opinion, had no lasting power.

The only time I cry during movies like that is when the main character dresses up like a cheer leader and gets a beating with a trout! That's crying from laughter though.

when i was watching it, it just wasn't as smart of an animated movie. nemo had elements that could appeal to parents and children. this one seemed to be going straight for teenagers with their slicker graphics, and trying to draw in older audiences with silly lines that didn't always work.

shrek was much smarter than shark tale. nemo is a great animated movie also. look at the pixar movies - they have elements that children and adults love. you don't have to have a million stars to draw people in. if that's all you have, it indicates the movie might be lacking in other areas.

i agree , shark tale seemed to be aimed just a little bit above my 6 year old. she liked it ok, but not as much as nemo

Haven't seen it yet, though I remember a lot of whacko groups started thinking the influence of the italian voice actors in the movie was very harmful to children, because now they'll grow up thinking all italians are mobsters.

Do kids really care if the movie is good? As far as I can tell, they react purely to advertising. If the ads tell them Spongebob is awesome, and they have 50 Spongebob toys, they'll see a Spongebob movie 10 times regardless of how good it is.

So you DON'T think the spongebob movie was good?!?!? 😱
