Why was this closed? How can I do this right?

This thread was closed because another similar thread went awry?

How can I share this information without getting my thread closed?
I would like to talk about this subject in the OS forum yet it appears I can't, even when I do everything right. What must I do to discuss this subject without getting my thread closed?
Looking for mod suggestions and input.

Posting a guide or claim without posting data to validate is just you posting your opinion. Post up some facts and/or benchmarks to validate your claim or let it go.

So if he added a disclaimer that it's his educated opinion it would be OK to post?

Just trying to clarify.

That is absolutely correct.
Post up some facts and/or benchmarks to validate your claim or let it go.

Someone can post in the thread and say that the claim is invalid if it is not backed by data.
Someone else could run benchmarks and provide data one way or the other.
For all we now, anything could happen.
But, if we lock the thread, we will not allow the ideas to be exchanged.

Are we now locking down any thread that is just an opinion?
What if a thread is just about opinions? Is that not an important part of these forums? To exchange ideas and opinions?
I started a thread a while ago asking when people thought the 64-bit Vista be the norm OS. That thread was all about opinions.

I was hoping that we could find a way to allow people to participate productively, instead of alienating them. I went ahead and suggested that he opens another thread.
I feel responsible now for this and perhaps am to blame.

I respectfully ask you to reconsider or provide an alternative way for him to share his experience.

You are posting claims without any hard evidence or proof towards what you are trying to inform people about. If you are wanting to get input about your ideas and whether or not they actually work you need to post how you came to your conclusion, how you benchmarked your ideas to make sure they are actually true, and not based off of personal experience.

Without a doubt the large majority of forum posters here will not know you personally so how can they tell you are legit? Nobody here knows anything about your personally so "personal experiences" don't mean anything.

In short, we need benchmarks and cold hard numbers if you want a decent discussion about your ideas to occur.

He's already posted the same exact thread which turned into a flame war due to lack of benchmarks, this thread was headed down the same path.

I don't give a rats ass what your "personal experience" means. I don't know you, and I don't care to know you. What I am interested in is if your ideas actually work, so you need to post benchmarks.
This could have been stated in many different ways.

Making a performance claim, not backing it up, and then telling everyone else to provide evidence that supports your claim is incredibly arrogant.

Also, as pointed out in the original thread, the OP made several comments that were not respectful at all.

I had a talk (written communication) with him in another thread on this same forum. He was supposed to open another thread and be very respectful to posters. He was in this new thread.
Please do not lock the new thread based on the old one.

What claim? I'm posting my experience. I stated repeatedly that the only claim I was making was that in my experience this method was extremely effective.

I never told anyone anything. I stated very specifically that I would like to hear from others who have used similar methods. Some of you are twisting this out of context and I really don't understand why.

Some observations:

1. In my experience guides, tutorials, FAQ lists, etc. are generally posted after consultation with category mods. They tend to contain information generally accepted as valid by most of the posters. If someone just up and posted "Perry's Guide to Deals" in Hot Deals, it would be locked in a heartbeat.

2. If the mods lock a thread, reposting the same thing is a pretty sure way to get that thread locked as well.

3. I see nothing in the second thread to indicate that the OP is trying to start over in a different, more civil way.

4. While I'm happy that Navid and Perry are talking, I am unaware of anything that makes Navid the arbiter of when to repost threads and how to go about it. Following the advice of one member rather than the moderators is probaly not a wise way to proceed.

5. Crusty was less than cordial in the 2nd thread.

Because this thread went bad am I now not permitted to discuss this topic in my own thread?

Maybe discuss it with the moderator that closed the thread and ask for their input/advice?

You need to treat other posters in OS with respect and stop acting like its P&N. I can pull up multiple attacks against forum members from you the last few days. I told you next time I would vacaion you. I suggest you re-read the feedback from the various forum members in the locked threads and the PFI threads. You were repeatidly shown how you were insulting others, and it hasnt seem to sunk in yet.

I did take your advice. Please show me where I insulted anyone in this thread?

Once again I ask how can I communicate these things without the thread being closed?

You can see my trials on overclocking a Quad. Nowhere did I claim nor even want to show people HOW to do it. I think that's the difference between the threads. You are trying to instruct people without backing up your claims.

Where does it say in the terms of service that i must post benchmarks in order to share my experience? Please show me. I'm not instructing anyone. I'm explaining how I set up my OS.
Am I not permitted to tell people how I set up my system and acquire feedback?
Again please show me where this rule is that I must post benchmarks before I share my experience and methods.
Is this not a discussion forum?

My question again. Since benchmarks are not required to post, and I am refraining from any insults whatsoever, how may I discuss this topic without it being closed?

If you don't want others posting in your threads then you need to be PM'ing the moderators with your concerns and questions, not posting them in the public where anyone can comment on them.
