Why was my thread locked?

I'm wondering why my poll and thread, posted in the Politics & News forum, [Poll] Will former Durham DA Mike Nifong commit suicide?, was locked:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2068005&enterthread=y

I would have at least appreciated a comment of some sort. I know it's an edgy subject, but I bet it would have made for an interesting poll and a great discussion. And please don't say that Nifong is not a public political figure; he campaigned for a political office and was elected to that office and he appeared before cameras to discuss the case he was prosecuting, essentially making him a public political figure. Besides, how many other polls offer the following poll option:

Yes. She's probably been banging Raoul the pool boy for months while Nifong was busy with the Lacrosse case.

Huh? An elected DA is not a public political figure? If not then exactly what is your definition of a public political figure? Just because he is no longer in office does not suddenly change that reality. I don't care about the lock but this answer does baffle me.

I'm gonna guess it's because you posted in Politics and News and not in Politics, News, and Speculation :)

<Sigh>. It looks like the exact reason for the locking will remain a mystery. That's too bad because it would have made for a great thread and a great poll--the kinds of interesting ruminations that people read the P&N forum for.

I locked the thread because suicide speculation is not appropriate.

It equates to wishing death upon someone else.

So, what's wrong with that? We wish death upon the members of Al Quaeda, right? Also, a great many people wish that President Bush would just go ahead and die horribly somehow. So why not have a discussion about Mike Nifong and the outlook for his future? Nifong didn't seem to care that he might have been trying to end three innocent young men's lives by having them jailed for a long time, so why should we give a single squat about his welfare and well being? I think my post would have made for an excellent thread.

You are welcome to start the thread up again WITHOUT the poll on suicide speculation

Fair enough.

A better "speculation" would be

What will the DA now do that he can no longer practice law?

Thank you for inviting me to do so. I would like to take you up on that offer, but what if the thread's first post contains some of the questions that were posed in the poll?

Try to use some common sense and please take into account the above comments when starting the thread.

There will not be a third chance granted
