A pro-war thread started with an anti-moonbeam as a secondary theme? How about we start an anti-war thread with an anti-Charrison as a secondary theme and state...So without further adieu, i present to you one of the few and far in between anti-war threads necessary to educate poor, uninformed street lecturers like Charrison? How long do you think it'd last without receiving the attention it'd rightfully deserve from the mods?

Moonbeam,
Ahh... but I am not immune to ridicule, I just felt that spelling shouldn't have been a focus at all in this thread in the context that its on a messageboard. But anyhow, if you really are a staffer here, grad student, TA, Professor, or otherwise, I'd be fairly interested in meeting and debating with you in some mediated fashion, or otherwise just to meet the infamous pacifist of ATOT for the hell of it. In fact, you might have already seen me on campus if you went to the last calpatriot vs facuty debate regarding this exact issue.

As a quick followup:
"You didn't understand. I just thought it rather funny that a brilliant Berkeley student like yourself, proud of his admittance to such a fine school, would take it upon himself to attack an unwashed peacenik like myself, and post his picture to boot, while never considering the possibility you might be one of my students."
If you've really hung around campus, you should be familiar with everything I mentioned in the first post regarding the ranting peaceniks on sproul, every corner of telegraph avenue, etc. as well as everything else i've mentioned. The main point was that these people happen to be the loudest on campus. Contrast that with the students- yes the silent majority is conservative. These are the people that don't waste their time trying to combat the protests because they know that whatever happens, how loud you shout or hold up that sign, it will ultimately make no difference. A symbolic gesture (protesting the war), of course, but defintely not reflecting or encompassing the people who take showers in Berkeley. Weird, eh?

Is it possible even the mods have something against Moonbeam...thus allowing this kind of thing?

Now now, we have our share of anti-war, anti-bush threads around here to more than make up for this one. Do you expect the mods to be closing any of those also? Now Moonbeam was chosen from a large pool of peaceniks to represent the bunch. The whole secondary theme was directed towards members in general who make uninformed comments, which i've seen more in the anti-war thread.

Because of the inherent negative nature of war, most people who advocate it are forced to know why its justified, and thus have the information regarding it. In contrast, most peaceniks make broad generalizations that seem to reflect their general misunderstanding of the situation, falling into these three main categories:

Bush is a warmonger
This is all for Oil.
Bush is doing this to take away attention from other domestic issues.

we've seen situations where posters on campus simply said "War is Bad," "Bush is out to kill children," "Why can't we all just get along," which obviously doesn't show the whole picture of the type of person Saddam is, or the situations leading up to this that Clinton should have taken steps to pursue if it weren't for his huge descaling of the military.

Hopefully the Moderators know that I can handle and welcome criticism. Some of it is simple hate and maybe doesn't belong in a public forum that has other things to consider than just allowing people to spew venom, but even that's ok with me. Real learning to me is that which takes you deep within to where you really live, what it is you really feel, and WHY. You can't do that without feeling. People don't even realize how truly angry they really are so much of the time. That is the source of a tremendous portion of depression so many talk about having here. The anger people throw at me at least is closer to the real, no? It's doesn't do much good without some recognition of it's source, but everything in its time. The growth of wisdom takes time.

We all want to cross the river and we all want to take our thousand pounds of cabbage with us. If you care for people and want to serve, you have to eat their cabbage. I used to have a ton of cabbage I thought was gold. I know how it is.

ed21x, a big mistake you've made here, in my opinion, is to categorize narrowly a rather broad spectrum phenomenon. There are a number of threads, right now, for example, that deal with questions of justification for war, one at least which I started, and in which many people have contributed highly intelligent arguments on both sides of the issue. perhaps if you spent more time in quiet reading and less in ranting about how stupid everybody is, you could even express something with content to the issue.

Edit: And furthermore when I look at Telegraph Ave, I don't see what you see. You make the assumption that what you see is reality. Without examination of the assumptions you make as to what you see, you are just reacting to your conditioning. The realization that we are blinded by our past is the dawning of modesty, I think.
