Vegetarians and Vegans are idiots.

I think there's an argument to be made based on the hugely negative impact that maintaining animal herds for food has (esp. cows)

Nope...that is just more idiocy.

-KeithP

Sorry for going off topic, and not to be too judgmental here, but actually, meat eating really is idiocy.

The amount of water, land and fossil fuel needed to produce meat-for-food is many times that needed for vegetarian food, and the impact on global-warming by the meat industry is catastrophically greater.

This is not just an opinion - the numbers back it up:

We have a guy here at work who is a vegetarian. We occasionally have in office luncheons around holiday time where people bring stuff in. He'll always question people about what is in the products, to make sure he's not eating some animal product by accident. Something had eggs in it the one time and he said oh, he can't eat that then. Questioned him on why he won't eat eggs. He said that's like eating baby chickens. I asked him if he knew that those eggs would never actually turn into chickens. He had no clue, he really believed every egg was a baby chicken that was not allowed to hatch.

was he indian?

since the OPs ignorance regarding the variations of vegetarianism has been covered, let's talk about those eggs.

most of the eggs i consume come fresh from friends who have chickens, some of whom have roosters. many of the eggs i eat are indeed fertilized and there is virtually no difference between the two when fresh. fresh eggs don't need to be refrigerated, however, it will stop the development of a fertilized egg.

I have a vegetarian GF she still does dairy and eggs. She does her best to avoid leather shoes, bags, ECT. Its more for her health and compassion for animals.
She had told me some hardcore vegans won't touch "stolen animal products" like wool, honey, goose down.

If you believe that domesticated farm animals are living a "nightmare" (which I find humorous, to put it mildly) by being in captivity for the production of meat, eggs, leather ... OK, I can understand the logic, even if I don't empathize.

But I've never understood the argument against honey. Fucking bees? You've gotta be kidding me.

I always felt that people who call themselves vegetarians yet eat eggs and especially fish are kinda cheating as even in the case of the eggs they could still had been born if the right conditions were met.

Stop cheating and go become a rabbit. ;)

Oh wait a minute...

:whiste:

They are, actually, and cheaper than the in store Publix ones even.

Not sure how they pull that one off, you'd normally think they would be more expensive, we like the Browns.

Humans are omnivores. We are meant to eat meat and plants. Vegetarians and Vegans have a harder time to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

http://atlanta.cbslocal.com/2014/04...althy-lower-quality-of-life-than-meat-eaters/

Vegetarians may have a lower BMI and drink alcohol sparingly, but vegetarian diets are tied to generally poorer health, poorer quality of life and a higher need for health care than their meat-eating counterparts.

A new study from the Medical University of Graz in Austria finds that vegetarians are more physically active, drink less alcohol and smoke less tobacco than those who consume meat in their diets. Vegetarians also have a higher socioeconomic status and a lower body mass index. But the vegetarian diet — characterized by a low consumption of saturated fats and cholesterol that includes increased intake of fruits, vegetables and whole-grain products — carries elevated risks of cancer, allergies and mental health disorders.

Vegetarians were twice as likely to have allergies, a 50 percent increase in heart attacks and a 50 percent increase in incidences of cancer.

Definitions since they haven't been mentioned. I think this was 8th grade health class.

Vegetarians: no meat or animal products.
Ovo-vegetarians: allow eggs.
Ovolactovegetarians: eggs and milk.

Vegans - follows of veganism: vegetarian diet, but also refuse to use other animal products, e.g., leather shoes.

Idiots: claim they're vegans, but wear leather shoes.

At root it comes out of India. The root idea is, to achieve deeper meditation (absorption into deepest personal awareness of GOD) it helps to avoid "lower" metaphysical vibrations of ESPECIALLY pork, and lamb, and beef in all forms. Idea being that for a person to ACHIEVE deepest possible rapport (communion) with the DIVINE in superhuman intimate relaxed awareness, the grossest external vibrations of crap like pork, beef, etc. worked against you. Blocked your awareness, kept you engaged in the physical world while you attempted to relax into deeper realms meta-this physical world.
Apparently, of all the worst possible things to take into your body, the supreme worst is pig stuff *YUMMMMMMY bacon) ham, etc.

... I have no idea what you're smoking, but I hope you brought enough for the class. I also have no idea what India has to do with it, unless you mean California.

Serious question for anyone that is Vegan or Vegetarian for reasons about "harming animals" etc, especially the no egg eater. Do they believe human abortion is okay? Most vegans/vegetarians are pretty liberal so it got me thinking. Not here to debate abortion, just curious what side of the debate most "no meaters" are.

I am off to go eat a steak...

Some vegetarians eat eggs.

But the primary reason many vegetarians/vegans are against eating eggs is because in order to provide those eggs there would have to be millions of chickens basically "enslaved" in farms to produce the eggs.

They want chickens to have liberty.

How exactly does one "enslave" a chicken?

More foolishness from the crazy vegan animals rights people.

Not correct. The most common type is where dairy products are consumed, but not eggs or fish.

<off-topic>
As for those looking to link vegetarianism with abortion: I for one am all for abortion rights - as a choice for the lady in question. Nothing to do with any lofty arguments but to personal choice. I don't want to monitor others' diet, or anything else in their lives.

Vegetarians were twice as likely to have allergies, a 50 percent increase in heart attacks and a 50 percent increase in incidences of cancer.

That must be one of the most biased/imbalanced studies ever. Austria is one of the worst places in Europe for vegetarian food, which is saying a lot, because Europe is not very good in general for that. You have to hunt long and hard for veggie offerings in the grocery store (and pay more), and even for veggie dishes in restaurants. So with that background, all that study did is point out that a vegetarian in Austria has a tough life.

Also, there's this gem in it :
Subjects who consumed lower amounts of animal fat were also linked to poor health care practices, such as avoidance of vaccinations and a lack of preventive care.
So those vegetarians are all hippies.

But the study also says this:
Vegetarians also have a higher socioeconomic status
What's it - they are rich, or they are hippies? Or they are rich hippies?

Anyway, that study is bunkum, at least for the wider world.
